Fukuchiyama Castle Park

The whole city of Fukuchiyama is simple small and beautiful! This castle is lovely and the parks gives it a nice green touch, during rainy weather there’s not much to do but on a better day it would be fun to visit!

Before Fukuchiyama Castle, there was Yokoyama Castle, a fortress of the Yokoyama, the local ruling family. Akechi Mitsuhide, the samurai who subjugated Tamba, rebuilt the fortress using state-of-the-art castle-building techniques of the time, and renamed it Fukuchiyama Castle. There used to be many structures here, including a three-layered four-storied castle tower and expansive Ninomaru Palace. However, these were taken down one after another, following the abolition of feudal domains in 1871. All that remained was a stone wall between the raised foundation and castle keep, a well called Toyoiwa-no-I, and a guard station. The castle currently standing was reconstructed over a period of three years, and construction was completed 1986. The interior is used as the Fukuchiyama City Folk Museum. The castle park also contains the Fukuchiyama Sato Taisei Memorial Art Museum. Exhibits there are centered on works by the late Sato Taisei, a master of Japanese-style painting.

Beautiful castle in a beautiful city.
At Fukuchiyama castle, you have a complete, 360° unobstructed view of the entire city, and there are no tall buildings near the castle. The castle is filled with historic and cultural items and is well worth a visit. You are likely to spend 30-45 minutes here.

A less well-known but decent castle. Fewer tourists visitors which made me can enjoy the quiet and a peaceful atmosphere here.

I was only able to visit the grounds surrounding the castle (also able to touch the castle) due to the time of day but I don't feel that I missed out. The beauty of this castle is only understood and appreciated if you are there. The lighting on the castle at night really brings a different dimension to this impressive structure.

The castle of Fukuchiyama was once called Yokoyama Castle. It was then serving itself as a fortress of a mighty clan rules the region. It was Akechi Mitsuhide who reconstructed this fort into a castle and named it Fukuchiyama Castle after he subjugated Country of Tamba. The castle was built with great architectual structure with four-storied tower as well as palace attached to it back then. The tower-like structure was built in this location since the location is on the ground of protruding part of the land in the central part of Fukuchiyama Basin, it was in a perfection point to look out the area. Yura River which runs next to the castle functioned itself as a moat around the castle. Along with abolition of feudal system this amazing structure of the castle was taken down in 1871. The current structure was constructed in 1986 and serves itself as a folk museum of the city. One of the remaining feature of this castle is a well which goes as deep as 50 meters and 7 meters below sea level. The well still provides water supply. This is a symbol of Fukucjiyama city with lightup provided at night. The area around the castle is now called Fukuchiyama Castle Park. ( Trans-word+ : TGM Kyoto Guide )

Saw this castle on my way to another location on the way back we stopped off to take a closer look. It was well worth the visit with beautiful views from the top.

明智光秀縁の城趾公園です。日本史では３日天下、謀反等、末路の悪いイメージばかり切り取られていますが、由良川の氾濫対策としての堤防整備、経済対策としての税の免除、丹波平定など、功績は計り知れません。
福知山城の整備へのお金のかけ方は、そういった地元での人気の高さからくるものなのかもしれません。公園もお城も(改築されていますが)コンパクトですが、多くの山城が天守のないままなのに、ここは復元されているのも、そういった表れかも。
駐車場や食事をする店舗が適度にあるので、半日コースで訪れるのに丁度良かったです。
駐車場から小川を渡ってお城へ渡る橋など、近代的ではありますが、何となく安土桃山時代を彷彿させます。

続百名城ですよ‼駐車場無料ですね🍀天守の下層が板張りが眼を引きます😃あの有名な明智光秀や羽柴秀長、秀吉の正室寧々の伯父さんの杉原家次、歴代城主は、多数、一番長く城主藩主は、朽木13代二百年続きました‼城のなかは、資料館にもなってます‼拝観料330円❗場内に藤井聡太竜王戦開催展示アリ❗

明智光秀が丹波を平定して、ここ福知山に、福知山城と城下町を築いたそうな。お城の見学は３３０円です。４階まで有り、天守閣からの眺めはサイコー❗お殿様になった気分です⁉志村けんで大丈夫だ‼あっバカ殿と勘違いしちまったな‼貴重な書物や、戦国時代の歴史の資料が展示してます。シアターでは光秀の生涯を解りやすく上映してます。時代劇好きにはたまりませんな❗お城までの坂が結構きついので、良い運動になり万年❗現在、ストリートファイターの昇竜拳じゃなく、昇竜橋を造っています。結構階段がきつくカッコいい橋ですよ❗出来るまで、もう少しの辛坊治郎でお願いしまんにゃわ‼駐車場は無料で、８０台位停めれますだ岡田❗土日祝は満車になるので、平日がお薦め❗皆、福知山城に、見学に来てみておくんなまし～🎵

お城の駐車場Pは20〜30台位？。無料なんです。
久し振りに入場料を六人の団体？で払って入りました。大人三百何十円。なかなか中身が濃くて、お得だと思いました。Pが無料なのでタダみたいなものてす。藤井７冠の対局場も見学できます。展示品もじっくり見ると見ごたえ有り。天守閣は最後にいくつかの階段を昇ると有りました。東西南北の四方がきれいに見渡せ、伸びやかな良い景色でした。

平山城で天守まで結構急な坂道です。
4階建て、階段は緩やかなのでここまでくれば登れるでしょう。
1階が明智光秀に関する展示、2階が明智後の太守、藩主の紹介、3階は何もなく、4階は展望台ですが外には出られないです。
歴史好きなら大体知ってる内容です。
丹波平定は普通なら初耳、興味深いと思います。
