Saw some great reviews and decided to head to this restaurant for dinner during our trip in Yakushima.

The food portion here is big and it serves many local seafood and produce.
We made it a point to try out flying fish and also this very unique crustraciean which I thought is a shell fish called kame no te (translated as turtle leg) because it is how it look like.

When we spoke to the waitress, she explained that it is more like shrimp than shell fish and when we tasted it, it actually tasted more like baby squid to us. It seem like the correct way of eating is to suck out the meat but I use chopsticks to dig it out instead given I wasn’t sure how it was eaten until the owner of another restaurant told me. It was quite an experience from the look of it but it taste really good with wasabi and soya sauce as they are boiled.

They served flying fish that is grilled or fried and we opted for fried which served with spicy oroshi (grated radish) and ponzu (citrus soya sauce), the whole fish can be eaten from head to tail to the fins too. Highly recommend the fried ones.

The giant shrimp seem to be a popular dish as well as we see many people ordered and boy that was a right choice, it was so juicy and meaty! We enjoyed our meal so thoroughly.

Each set comes with huge portion of rice, chawamushi (steamed egg custard), side dish, miso soup and you can top up sashimi which we did and cost around JPY2000, so worth it.

We spotted mostly locals but there were also a few foreigners, highly recommend this place. Parking is just right at the back of the shop but they only have 2 lots so you might need to find elsewhere if you can’t find one.

We loved it & will come back again to try dinner.

Welcoming staff & delicious food, adding to our must-eat every time we come to Yakushima for hiking. Very popular and they take walk in so you can wait but they serve everyone fast. We come often from Sydney, Australia.

Cash only so make sure you have cash on you.

No frills place specialized in fish, raw, grilled or deep fried. They have English translations in their fixed menu but their daily board in his Japanese. Their mackerel sashimi was amazing. Also try their fried king prawn, best comforting food!

Tasty food with great service, no reservation required! They have an English menu and we went a la carte and we tried the following dishes:

- flying fish kaarage came hot and fresh
- Wagyu Beef fillet super tender and tasty, just melts in your mouth
- pork kurbota croquettes came out super hot and super flavourful with the ponzu sauce!
- sashimi was good and good variety
- salt grilled Yakushima flying prawns super tasty
- salted and fermented tuna entrails tastes weird not a must try.

Here is one of the best place I've ever visited the Japanese local restaurant based on sashimi for me. And, I could try the premium sweet potato soju(sochu) here with the dishes.

Relatively large restaurant with a few dining areas. We ordered two sashimi set meals, one with flying fish karaage and another with tempura. We ordered a flying fishcake too since Yakushima is known for flying fish.

Food was tasty, sashimi was fresh, portions were filling and prices were reasonable. Highly recommend! (Note: cash payment only)

Our hotel owner recommended this place, and it is a great find. I have only be there for lunch. They have a short selection of rice platter with katsu or fish and also udon dishes. The price is reasonable and the food very good!

Top quality food with variety offered. Sashimi, tempura, tonkatsu (breaded fried pork chop), "black pig" (Berkshire pork) a specialty and very good. Huge range of Japanese liquor. Only one large table for six, plus counter space, and a few tatami rooms for groups. Friendly staff. Very close to the "toppy" pier. It also runs a "pension" upstairs.

Tops... really good value for money. Went there for the first night and decided to go for the next night as well. Their breaded prawns set is really worth the money. Eventhough they cannot converse well in English, they more than make up for it with their friendliness.

Their food is sooo good and fresh. The prices aren’t so expensive especially for the set meals you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. You have to visit the restaurant when you visit Yakushima.

Their food is sooo good and fresh. The prices aren’t so expensive especially for the set meals you’ll definitely get your money’s worth. I tried the flying fish with sashimi set meal for ¥1800. I don’t think I can have this meal with this price in Tokyo. You have to visit the restaurant when you visit Yakushima.

We came here 3 nights in a row and it was quite possibly some of the best food we’ve had in Japan. Particularly recommend the wagyu beef but we tried almost the whole menu and you can’t go wrong. Lovely staff too.
