Spectacular view of the dam that made me awed. The view of the mountains is very clear here and blends well with the water. Trust me that it will only get better from here as you go up. They will only release the water from June/July so you can only see the rainbow then.

This is part of Tateyama Alpine Route travel, using multiple mode of transport. The scenery along this route were the best. The fact that this is in spring (May) makes the weather is warm, so more comfortable for those who didn't like cold weather, and we still get the snow scenery..

Stunning view in this sunny day with clear and blue sky. Need to climb 220 steps of stair to the observatory but worthy. The outdoor stairs is closed due to the snow.

This was my first stop of Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Kurobe Dam. It took around 15 minutes from Ogizawa Station. The view here amazing and the wind is really strong, this dam is 186 meters high. This is such a huge and tall water dam, and also it is a way to reach Kurobeko station.

The views are dam good here. Weather is pretty chilly and sun is bright so pack as weather and sun protection. Didn’t go on the cruise so can’t comment on that, I was on the way up the mountain. The dam has some great history so do go check that out if you’re interested in how the dam plays a part in supporting the villages at the foot of the mountains. Apart from that, it’s a great photo opportunity area

Very impressive dam.

The wind there is insane, very very cold during spring so do layer up.

Beautiful scenery.
The climb up the observatory can be rather tiring. With 260-280 steps up and down. Definitely not for the faint hearted!
The dam Only open for discharge from late june, which can be spectacular. Factor in at least an hour to walk around.
There is also the option to take a scenic cruise for 30 mins at a charge

I traveled to Kurobe Dam in October by train from Toyama and bus up the mountain. I suggest using this route to go from Hokuriku to Tokyo if you want to experience some sightseeing in Japan!

Kurobe dam was built in the mid 1960’s and is quite an engineering marvel. It makes you a bit dizzy to stand at the top and look down.

Definitely worth a visit!

RECOMMENDATION:
- Be sure to go to the restaurant and eat the “Dam Curry”. It is a curry dish with the rice shaped like a dam holding back the curry. Best Dam Curry ever!

INTERESTING FACT:
- Their mascot is “Kuronyan” (“Black Cat”).

SECRET FACT:
- When you ride the electric bus to get there, look at the handle holds: they are black cat heads!

The scale of the dam is overwhelming. Was here on a rainy day, so some parts of the dam were closed (or are they perennially closed?). After spending some time at the dam, walk up-to the final bus stop (5 mins) and check out the observatory from there (I missed it. Was too late by the time I realized that the entrance to the observatory is from the bus stop).

An amazing place with spectacular views. The dam looks extremely grand and huge. Visited it during late autumn and it was snowing lightly. Do walk the entire length if time permits. The views below the dam are really cool too. You will not regret it. Highly recommended and a must to visit!!

The Kurobe Dam (the tallest dam in Japan ) should not be missed. I visited Here in May and it was perfect! You need to take the special tram to get you there, but it's well worth it. It is one of the main attractions of Kurobe Tateyama Alpine Route. It is huge and very impressive. The scenic view was honestly gorgeous to say the very least. You fell never tired of seeing its panoramic scenery.

The Kurobe Dam, a part of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine route, is the highlight of the route itself. I was phenomenally lucky as I was graced with amazing weather during the trip (evidenced in the photos attached). The area features the gorgeous azure Kurobe Lake and eye watering views of forest, mountain and sky. You can walk along the dam, which at 180 something meters (the tallest dam in Japan!) will make you feel weak in the knees as you look over the side. This structure is a marvel of human engineering in one of the most beautiful places on Earth.

It is in the Kurobe alpine route or also known as the Japanese Alps. I visited the route on the last day of April and the weather was excellent.

It took us over 4 hours by train and bus to reach the Kurobe Dam from Nagoya. The bus ride from Ogizawa to the Dam was about 15 minutes through a 6-Km tunnel. It was windy and cold on to of the dam.

There is an observation deck that provides a scenic view of the area & the Dam but it involves quite a bit of climbing. There's a kiosk where you can purchase some snacks. You can also have your photo taken at the Dam by the professional.

It's definitely worth a visit. The Dam would look different at different time of the year. It gives you a good reason for re-visiting the place again and again (^.*) you can walk over the top of the dam. There is also a boat that offers a 30-minute cruise around the reservoir. In the Rest House, there is a small gift shop and a cafeteria.

Kurobe Dam: the experience getting there is half the fun, passing through such lovely scenery especially in Autumn. I visited from Ōmachi, Nagano by rental car. Few people before 10am. Get ready for some steps! Bus arrives at the dam and you have to walk up a couple hundred of steps then down to the dam — take note of it if you’re trying to catch a specific bus back. Free car parking before you get to the bus station, paid parking if you want to be close. Parking lot fills up early. Oh - beware of the monkeys!

A good experience for the lazy to climb a mountain without climbing. 😂😂 Even so, there is a fair bit of stair climbing but the view is definitely well worth the effort. In comparison to the Hoover dam, this is much much more spectacular and much more better in setting. The surrounding mountains only add to the beauty of the dam. Getting up there is an experience too, having to catch an electric bus and also cable car and a mountain tram (funicular???). On the tram, for better photo opportunities I would suggest that you don't sit but stand right at the end or front as they can get pretty packed.
This trip is still pretty hard going so I wouldn't recommend it for the really unfit or older people. When you reach the higher areas you will be over 4000m above sea level so some people may get a little altitude sickness with the exertion so take your time and take it easy. Funny enough, smokers seem to have an easier time up there as long as they don't smoke when up there.

Scenic views and beautiful nature surrounding the dam. Don't forget to go to the observatory atop, you can enjoy a 360 panoramic view of the surrounding mountains.

Amazing view.. the dam, the mountain, the snow, the cable car, everything is amazing. I started the trip from Toyama, when get on the cable car, I was standing at the right side which is an advantage since I can see and record the breathtaking view.
