Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine

We visited this place on 8 october 2023. The day was little bit rainy but didn't interrupt our visit to this UNESCO World heritage site.

We started our journey from Yamaguchi city. The way to Shimane was also nice and enjoyable.

It was a guided tour. First, we visited the art museum. It is recommended to visit before you go to the site. You can know the history thoroughly. Then it will be easy to you to visualize the 500 years old silver mine civilization.

The place is quite thrilling full with history. You can see 500 years ago Barbara shop, the house of Samurai, old house and court building. Here, everything was kept as you can imagine yourself and go back 500 years ago.

Although we can not visit the actual mine area the trip was worthy as well. Strongly recommended.

This was a fun experience. If you come here expecting to go deep under ground in a deep, vast tunnel you will be let down. The tunnel is nice to walk through but it's not the most thrilling thing in the world so its best to keep your expectations low. What really made this experience special was hiring a bicycle and riding through the beautiful traditional buildings in the town which leads up to the mine.

Iwami Ginza Mines is a great experience. Very peaceful and relaxing. There is only two ways to reach the mine walk or hire a bicycle some of which are electric. Its a 2.5 km easy walk with things to see along the way (temples, shrines and beautiful scenery and toilets). The mine cost is 500 yen and foreigners get a discount. A must see.

I really enjoy when visiting Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine. This place, become UNESCO heritage site because here you will find the trace of the glory silver mine 400 years ago. Roads, tunnels, Samurai's house, and artifacts as remnants of silver mine still exists until now. This place is conserved well until now. Had trade with Europe, prove this silver mine activity affected Japan's economy at that time. Tour into the tunnel will give you the idea how the labors work to get the silver. It really hard to work under having water problems, and the shortage of light and fresh air in the past. Please visit Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine, you will not regret!!

This was one of the most beautiful scenic, little towns I have been to in Japan.
The nature/town are very tranquil and the locals where super friendly .
The mine history was also very interesting too.
Definitely recommend this place, a little bit of the beaten track.

It's a real shame that tourist stay on the Pacific coast when visiting Japan. There are so many great places along the coast of the Japanese sea. Iwami Ginzan is definitely one of them. Great place to be and experience Japan's history, influencing the whole world at that time.

Lovely old town with an old charm to it. The silver mines are also amazing to explore. However, they're very cold inside.

Expect to spend at least an hour here at the mines. They have very little English information, but it's still an interesting place to visit and learn about Japanese silver mining.

お正月に行った為、お店がほとんど閉まっていました。
また、駐車場から洞窟まで40分程歩くので小さい子供さんがいると大変かも💦

我が家は、景色を見ながら楽しく歩いて行けました。
洞窟は雰囲気もバッチリ👍‼
サイコーでした！！

オシャレなお店が、沢山あり雑貨屋さん、パン屋さん、本屋さん、お蕎麦屋さんと見どころ満載。
歩くだけでも、雰囲気を楽しめる。
昔ながらのお家や、床屋さんなど自由に入れて昔の道具を見たり触れたりするとこが出来るので、是非立ち寄ってみて下さい。
写真スポットが、とにかく沢山あり写真を何枚も撮ってしまいました。
オススメは、ベッカライコンディトライヒダカのパン！並んででも、食べていただきたい！

ガイド付き、人形なしのところが当地独特。ガイドさんのお話が興味深かった。
・(江戸時代)坑夫の人々は大変高給で福利厚生も抜群に手厚かったこと、ただ坑道で使う灯り取りの油(植物油)から出るすすの影響で、非常に短命であったこと(30才くらい)
・当地の銀を巡り戦国時代、大内氏、尼子氏、毛利氏の間で激しい領地の争奪戦があったこと。
・当地の修験者は、山中で修行を続ける傍ら、新たな鉱脈を探し続けていたこと。

麓の重要伝統的建築物群もベンガラ屋根が美しい町並みであった。

世界遺産に指定された銀の採掘場跡地です。
駐車場は少し離れた所に無料のがあります。
駐車場から銀山の入口までは2キロ以上あるのでレンタサイクルを借りるのがベストです。
レンタサイクルは電動(オススメ)が1台700円です。普通の自転車は500円です。
行きはずっと登坂なので電動がベストです。
自転車で15分くらいで入口に着きます。
入場料は大人1人410円です。
中はとても涼しいです。
ちょっと天井が低くかがまないと行けない所
もあります。
中はそんなに長くはないので意外とあっという間に終わります。
銀採掘の歴史を感じる事ができます。
サイクリングもとても楽しいですよ。
是非ともオススメの場所です。

いつか来たいと思って念願叶えり。兵どもが夢の跡と、いった感じ。ところどころに出くわす史跡の数々。かなり、マイナーな点もいいところなのかな？アスファルト舗装路より、川辺の散策路を歩いた方が、夏の日差し優しく、何気に、へーと、関心湧く。坑道間歩が期待していたより、残念だった（個人的なイメージとの乖離）ので、散策が、結果的によかった。

石見銀山が世界遺産に登録された理由は、大雑把に次の３つだそうです。

１．銀を採掘した鉱山（間歩）や精錬所跡などが良好な状態で保存されていること。

２．１６世紀から１７世紀初めごろ、石見銀山の銀は世界の総取引の10％以上を占め、世界経済に大きな影響を与えたこと。

３．「銀山→鉱山集落→積出港」の輸送ルートが現在でも形をとどめていること。また、鉱山集落も残っていること。

歴史と人間の凄さを感じる世界遺産

今は自然に還っているので、ぱっと散策しただけでは想像できないが、数百年前にこの辺り一帯が大都市であったと思うと、我々現代人は数百年後どうなっているのだろうかと、過去の歴史だけでなく未来についても考えることができる場所と思います

こちらを散策する際には、時間をゆっくり取ってガイドさんにお世話になったほうが絶対良いと思います

歴史を教えて頂きながら巡ることで、かつてこの地で生きていた方々の凄さを知ることができるかと

歴史好きには堪らない場所です。ただし、駐車場が台数少ないのと、止められも非常に長時間歩行しないと見てまわれません。1日掛けるつもりで行くならいい所ですね。
