大分にゆかりの宣教師。2015年の現大分駅ビル開業と共に駅前に建てられた。以前からある大友宗麟像と共に大分駅前のシンボルとなっている。

訪れてみたものの、ザビエル像の足元でスマホ。銅像の説明書きなどを見れる余地がありませんでした。
