We entered to historical site and saw the re-entombed structures. One can see the different stones used to construct the walls facing north. After WWII this area was damaged and the colors of the reconstructed rooms was lighter in color.

The west rooms were for the final remains of the kings. The central rooms were for the placing the remains before the washing of the bones. The west room was for the rest of the family members.

The site has been used since 1501.

We got lucky and a film crew was filming a ceremony so we got a bonus ceremony during our visit, it was BEAUTIFUL! Worth the 300¥ to get in and learn our the history of the burial site.

We parked at Shurijo castle and made a day of visiting everything there!

a touching place rich with informative information on the lost souls of the Okinawa battle. suitable for for the commoner interested in history and culture. run by a few locals with pure and caring hearts.

See where the Kings and royalty rest peacefully. No crowds and felt like i was locked back in time standing in courtyard. Little museum explaining the site downstairs where you buy a ticket.

This mausoleum is worth checking out.
It is very cultural significant.
It also has art exhibitions.

watch your head when entering. ;-)

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Such a cool experience, walk over over Shurijo Castle and check it out!

An important historical and cultural site in Okinawa, this is a World Heritage, UNESCO property. It's worth visiting and, a good little walk from any major parking areas. Once purchasing a ticket, to enter, forget about smoking cigarettes, until you depart the grounds.

Cool place to go. Make sure you go down to the underground floor to understand and get information about the place. Basically it's the graveyard of the early kings and his family. You won't be able to see the urns etc. But at the underground exhibition, the replicas and miniatures are shown

Fascinating old ryukyu kingdom dynasty history.

Turns out they had a live traditional Okinawan dance at no additional cost. I'm not sure if that's everyday or we got lucky. The castle your was amazing.

Very interesting historical place that used toe the tombs for the Okinawan kings.
