Whoever listed this place as a 3 Star hotel on Google hasn’t stayed there recently or has a Kardashian surname. Everything was done well. Airy, modern Japanese style reception area, welcoming staff, good sized indoor/outdoor onsons, large rooms with raised comfortable beds. The meal experience was sensational. A procession of wonderful dishes served in your own traditional rice paper panelled dining space.

A beautiful underrated mountain hideaway. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the rooms are comfortable, the baths are spacious and the food is amazing! I would like to come back here the next time I visit Japan

The location is perfect, what a forest, quiet and traditional Japanese.
Dinner was something else, have not experienced the tastes on any other traditional restaurant. Staff were very helpful. We had a one night and and had to move to the next hop in Japan, it is a pity we had no time to enjoy the place some more

This is probably the best place I've ever stayed in. It cost more than I usually pay as a solo traveler, but I decided to splurge since there were no other places in Tsumago available. It was worth every penny and I would go back in a heartbeat 💜

Honestly, everything was perfect. The staff, the room, the view, the lounge, the onsen, the shuttle, and even the small details like the complimentary Japanese delicacies in the room.

It's quite remote, but they have a great shuttle service that made getting there nice and easy.

I've already promised my mom that I'll send her there once she visits Japan, which for me says it all :)

We stayed two nights in this delightful small ryokan up in the hills above the Kiso Valley.
Including our walk on the Nakasendo Trail from Magome to Tsumago, this was our best experience in our Japan vacation.
We loved our traditional Japanese room with the tatami mat floor, but were happy to have a "normal" table and chairs as well.
We dressed in our yukutas and had wonderful course meals in our private room.
And of course we visited the onsen twice as well.

Fantastic ryokan accomodation in a serene setting.

We stayed in a traditional ryokan styled room with a gorgeous view of the mountains and greenery.

The onsens are beautiful and switch over daily, so you can experience both sides / views (as the genders are separated as per usual onsen etiquette).

We paid a little extra to use the private onsen as a couple in the evening and the view was beautiful and starlit (I recommend to try this once as it is so peaceful and very secluded, please wear sandals or slip on shoes to walk to the top as the floor is pebbly!).

The dinner was excellent with an array of dishes presented beautifully.

The hotel staff are very friendly and we had a very helpful, multilingual waiter help us with the dinner menu.

I would highly recommend staying at hotel Fuki No Mori as it was so peaceful. It also has a lovely bus driver who can take you and pick you up to the train station and bus stop (for the Tsumago - Magome trail) for free (just ensure to call ahead of your arrival from the train station).

ありがとうございました。

Excellent ryokan not far from Tsumago, with incredibly attentive and good service, very nice and curated kaiseki dinner and delightfully relaxing onsen experience. Definitely recommended!

At the height of central japanese alpen, you can seize the sly with full stars. With a very comfortable hot springs, you can also try a great Japanese food.
