Toki Forest Park

It was great to see one of Japan's endangered bird species called Toki (scarlet crested ibis) and I got to learn about their history.

It was nice seeing not only the Japanese Toki, but there were other Ibises from different countries too

I absolutely loved the experience. I was a bit sceptical at first about animals living in cages. But I came to find that they treat the animals well. The staff explained a lot about the birds, especially about the couple in the breeding (which starts next month) cage. Safe from snow and rain, with fresh living fish to eat!
Toki a absolutely cute birds! You should come here! And be careful when the last bus leaves. The staff even reminded me of the imminent leave. Great service!
If you miss it - there are some beautiful shrines and temples in the area! A stroll around the neighborhood is worth it!

A bird park and garden, though it is not extremely big. Set aside, say, an hour or so. This location is a must-see for Sado Island, since you can see crested ibis birds in the flesh. Other related birds are also available, as is a museum regarding the birds, and a mascot who turned out to be surprisingly fun to take photos with. (The character in my photo is Torisumi Horou, a crested ibis.) I was impressed by the staff's ability to answer various questions about the birds in general, as well as about the specific crested ibis in the breeding cage area. Do note that you need to be lucky for the crested ibis to go close to the viewing windows -- typically, they'll be far away, and you can only see them through telescopes (pictured). There is a souvenir shop and an ice cream store available. Lastly, fees are minimal, and almost surely worth paying anyway to contribute to the island's nature conservation efforts.

The one guaranteed place to see Toki (Japanese Ibis). There are several habitats and buildings, but you might still be a bit unlucky and not get too close to one. The museum and information are quite fun too.

Makes for a side trip for maybe 1-3 hours. The park is not very big. Some of the birds can be seen from enclosures that doubles as a breeding cage, about 10mins bus ride from the ryotsu port

Lovely place to visit lots of Toki birds!!

Very rarely is an entire region so eagerly dedicated to a single species; it really shows here. Here, you can explore every single aspect of the crested ibis (toki). They even have a plush you can lift to feel how heavy they are. Of course they have plenty of the actual birds for you to look at as well. They are, of course, very cute.

二羽の鴇は、肉眼でもみられますが、望遠鏡もせっちしてくれています。
とにかくスタッフさんたちがフレンドリー。
缶バッチ作成などとても楽しめました(無料でした)
公園散策のような自然。歩いていて気持ちがよかったです。
ソフトクリームがあったりおみやげものやさんもありました。

トキをマジックミラー越しですが間近で見れて楽しかったです！
スタッフのおばちゃんがフレンドリーにトキが減少した理由(食用及び羽根の商用のための乱獲、農法改良による餌の減少)、保護されている推測(羽根が貴重で式年遷宮にも使われている！)、保護の方法(農薬をなるべく使わないなど)などを話してくれて大満足でした。ありがとうございますおばちゃん！
あと運良く野生のトキの飛ぶ姿も見れてラッキーでした。

トキも見れただけでなく、お土産屋さんの方、スタッフの方みなさん優しくてほっこりしました
お土産屋さんで何か購入すると笠を借りられます、おすすめです^_^

人間が便利や目先の利益ばかり追及すれば自然界の生き物や美しいモノを失うことを教えてくれます。物凄い努力の先に日本中に朱鷺が見られるようになったら凄い豊かな国になっているでしょうね。
ちなみに朱鷺を間近で見たかったら餌やりの時間に行くことをお勧めします。

ここは流石に遠方より来る価値があると思う。
訪れて色々教えてもらい、トキがなぜ減少してしまったのかと考えると、トキというよりは、むしろ人間の問題なのではないかと考えるようになった。

佐渡のトキにまつわる一通りのことが知れて、トキもたくさんみれる良スポットでした。

2003年に日本最後の野生のトキ（キンさん）が亡くなったこともここで知りました。経緯が胸熱だったのでまとめておきます。

時は昭和、天然記念物となっていたトキを保護するために国に雇われたトキハンター、宇治金太郎。宇治はトキの幼鳥を見つけ手懐けることに成功。自分に懐いてくれるトキに愛情が芽生えていたようでした。
しかし自分の役目はトキを捕獲すること。当時とても葛藤したようです。

しかし意を決してトキを捕獲。宇治はこの時のことを晩年まで思い悩み、他界されるときも、「裏切ってすまなかった」とトキへの謝罪を口にしたといいます。

その時のトキが、キンさんなのですね。

キンさんは36歳まで生きたようです。人間でいうと100歳を超え、来た時にはひとりぼっちだったトキの森には、今では人工繁殖でたくさんの仲間ができました。宇治さんの旅立ちも見送りました。

もう飛べなくなってしまい、天気のいい日に少し散歩をするだけになっていたキンさんですが、そんなトキの森で、元気に飛び回る仲間を見て、こう思います。

もう一度飛んでみたいなあ、次飛ぶ時は、宇治さんのもとに飛んでいきたい。

2003年ある日の明け方、キンさんは飛び立ちます。そして頭を打ち死亡。
最期に宇治さんのもとへ飛び立って行ったようです。

宇治さんとキンさんが、捕獲される以前のように天国で仲良く暮らしているといいです。

公園入口では、つぶらな瞳が可愛らしい「トキポスト」がお出迎えしてくれます。
公園内には、トキの保護・増殖に関する資料が展示されている「トキ資料展示館」、トキを間近で観察することができる「トキふれあいプラザ」があり、これらの施設を利用するためには各施設の入口でチケットを提示する必要があります。
遊歩道脇には、各所に愛らしいトキのペイントが施された小石が飾ってあり、とても和みながら散策することができました。
私が訪れた日は生憎の空模様であったため、残念ながら動く「さどっきー」には会えませんでした。

新潟県のトキに対する愛と想いが感じられる施設でした。
入場料もお値打ちで、運が良ければ野生のトキも見ることができます。

認識朱鷺的好所在，看得到但沒辦法真的很靠近朱鷺。園區不大，行程分配一個小時就差不多（含逛紀念品店）。買票時出示公車pass可以換特典，是朱鷺資料夾超讚！（一堆票根沒地方放）

園內有大大小小朱鷺的各種裝飾，看它還能變出什麼真是不會膩ww路線大概是走到資料展示館→ふれあいプラザ（近距離看朱鷺）→門口紀念品店就差不多。
