Tanzan Jinja

Absolute fun on an Autumn day. Now is the time. Leaves reaching peak. Interesting 500 year old temple converted into a massive shrine especially for those seeking love. Great little udon place reasonable just to the right of the main entrance. Parking near ¥1000 in November but free lots nearby with a little walk. Don't turn sharp left to the shrine direct but continue down the road above to free lots. Just a lovely day trip. Area has other shrines, temples, and museums in stunning scenery. Even the Lawsons are in old style buildings.

Stunning autumn colors in full bloom !! Lots of vendors selling snacks and local products on the way to the Jinja. Parking was quite easy probably because we visited on a Monday.

Managed to catch some Sakura even though the season was almost over. What was really memorable for me was the Warabi mochi at the restaurant inside the shrine. The Warabi mochi was made fresh and was amazing! The shop closes at 3pm.

Beautiful temple up in the hilly forests. Great view and serene calming grounds. A warrior monk shrine as well.

Soooooo autumny. I went and I was the only white guy which I really appreciate. Frequented mostly by the elderly during autum

Quaint area to visit Asuka village.

A fantastic spiritual place built on a highland slope. It's worth the trip there. If you take a bus from Samurai Stn. the walk down to Ashland via the terraced fields is something special, too. In Asuka, there are many interesting things to see on the way to your train home. You could also walk back to Samurai through the forest.

Quite far but worth a visit.

Simply breath taking foliage. The place is 30 min bus ride from Sakurai station. The bus runs only once every hour (or less). Expect some stairs, as the shrine is located in the mountain. 13 storied pagoda built in 7th Century is uniquely elegant. Also known for late blooming Sakura, cherry blossoms.
