On a chilly winter day, we embarked on a year-end stroll. LaColina in Shiga, Japan, was our chosen destination. The cloudy atmosphere added a cozy ambiance to the place. Upon arrival, we sought refuge in the warmth of a cozy café. We explored LaColina, uncovering the charms of the location, creating a memorable experience on this cold winter day.

Really cool place to visit. It looks like a set out of an anime. There's lushes greenery everywhere and the architecture is really stunning. It serves as the flagship store and central kitchen for Taneya, one of Japan's largest confectionery companies. You can see how their famous roll cakes (baumkuchen) are made, their cafes, installations, and lots of photo ops. If you are staying in Kyoto, it's a short train ride to Ōmi-Hachiman and then a 8-10 min bus ride from there. We walked from the station and checkout old town and grabbed lunch along the way.

Even without the amazing fairytale on the outer interior, it would be still be a must visit especially if you enjoy anything sweet or confectionery.

They have so much to offer, from doriyaki, sable, baumkuchen , financier, mandou. It is like a western and japanese confectionery heaven.

You can walk from omihachiman moat and is a good workout for the sweets that you are about to experience!

Staff are helpful and friendly even if you don't speak Japanese!

Really nice place to spend a few hours. The baumkuchen is yummy and it’s cool to see how they make it. The complex has a bunch of things to see and different eating areas serving different food.

This place is so pretty and the building ac grass roof is amazing the garden is pretty in the summer and the spring time, winter it is still a fun place to walk around. The food is so fun to watch then make and the upstairs restaurant feels like a dream, the food is so pretty I felt like I could not eat it.

This place is so cool - looks like a Studio Ghibli anime set! The architecture is a fusion of it's natural setting with a modern artsy design. Make sure you visit every spot in the complex as they are all different. Their baked goodies like baumkuchen, castella, etc. are so delicious 😋💯

A fancy place with an interesting atmosphere. A mix of futuristic architecture with vintage decoration. It worths the visit!
The stores offer a broad variety of products - bread, ice cream, jelly, beverage, food, etc. The parking area is big enough

Lovely place to visit. The famous grass roof is well-maintained and beautiful. We visited in mid-August and it was nicely green.

Freshly baked baumkuchen and sponge cake are absolutely delicious. You have to queue quite a bit and the best-before only for the day, but it's worth a try.

If you're a baumkuchen fanatic, this is the place for you. Only used to getting the Club Hare baumkuchen from Yokohama, it was a nice experience to get a fresh one from the cafe. The wait was a bit long (about 45 minutes during the holidays), but very much enjoyed the sweets in the clean, fun cafe. Elsewhere in the area, you can also find bakeries with fresh bread and castella cakes to name a few.

It looks like a vast park, but it actually a dessert store, you can buy many different kinds of desserts and also can walk in the park and take a pic, suitable for families with kids or elders.

Even if not spending on confectionery, just travelling there for the scenery was worthwhile. The wark Baum Kuchen direct from the oven is a must try!!!

Super packed when I came here. Loved the setting and the atmosphere here! So many yummy pastries to eat here. Tried the Castella Cake and was not disappointed. The place to try it is right after the main complex right next to the little sculpture in the center of the complex. A must have with ice cream and that red bean paste. A must stop by if you are visiting the area.

A mix of different cake shops surrounding a garden. The line up for the baumkuchen cafe on the second floor was too long, but if you go next door, there was a castella cafe with no line up. It seems like the garden will be very beautiful in the spring

Club Harie Factory is an interesting museum showing you the actual production line how the cake is produced from raw material.

Very unique place. Never been anywhere like it in Japan. The prices are a bit high, but the sweets are pretty fancy. This place is if you just want to take fun pictures or buy fancy expensive sweets. When I went at 5:00pm the outdoor “food court” area was all closed, but the main shops and restaurants were still open. I bought two delicious macaroons.

Great place to spend your time. Its like a mini theme park with variety of desserts. There is no entrance fee but the food are a little bit expensive. I personally recommend the dorayaki. They also sell hotdogs (450yen), macaroons (400yen), biscuits, chocolates and more. It is better to come early because it is quite crowded in the afternoon.
