I didn’t read much about this place before I visited, so I was even more positively surprised about what they have here. You can spend a good 2-3 hours here if you watch all the shows they have in the different theaters - which I definitely recommend, especially the ninja one - while also getting a good idea of what houses and vendors looked like in the Edo period. I can also recommend all the little games and attractions!

Ninja lovers must visit this village! I recommend to spend at least 4 hours here cuz there are many things to explore. There are 3 show and I like the ninja show the most. This village is beautiful and full of surprises. It's like reliving the stories of Japanese comic books. As an adult, I really enjoyed visiting this village. So much fun!

Place good to know ancient japan culture, have different show to well understand japan. But public transport is very less during winter time, you need to make sure not to miss last bus, no taxi to call.

This is a place that I have been here almost every year. I don’t feel bored but am indulged by the ancient Japanese atmosphere. Always a nice idea to spend half a day here

I’m a grown up but still had so much fun here. I spent 5 hours there but wished I could have stayed a bit longer.

The performances were entertaining. Knowing Japanese helps understand the story but there’s also cards at the entrance in multiple languages for you to read the plot of the show.

There are multiple ‘houses’ like Ninja Maze and Cat Ghost House which are fun short walks inside. Ninja Maze is highly recommended, especially for children.

The food and drinks inside are pretty good. A bit pricey but understandable.

Small but enriching place. Good place to learn about the history of Edo period. Not forgetting the entertaining performances.

Came during winter in feb. A must go when you are in this area. Though its more of a touristy theme park, you do feel like you are transported back in time to historical japan.

The staff there are all dressed in period clothings and lots of eductional spots around the park on different aspects of historical japan.

There is a place to rent clothes for appox 20min duration at 35,000 to 47,000 yen depending on package. Quite a good place for photoshoots amid the garden and villiage styled background.

There are 3 types of shows in winter (samurai, oiran, ninja) and one extra outdoor show in the other seasons. Overall oiran and ninja shows must not be missed.

There are some food outlets in the park as well, selling ramen, udon, soba and dango. Reasonably priced too.

You have game stalls here as well giving you a try on throwing shurikens and bows. Great activity for the whole family.

The 4 different performances are the highlight (each 15-30 min). Interesting and funny! They even include some help so English speaker can follow too. You also get to take pictures with the actors after the plays.

Beautiful place. Love it. Very happy and fun experience. The performance is great. We arrived late in the day and missed out one of the performances, which is a real shame. Nevertheless, I had great time here.

Kids’ smile is the standard and indicator to see whether this is good. And this one is good.

Full of educational and fun purposes to understand Japan’s movement of its history and society. People love Japanese ninja and this is the place to understand more than just that.

Highly recommended.

Noboribetsu Date Jidai Village is a history themed park that mimics Edo period. The village has traditional Japanese homes and if you come in the winter the Japanese homes will be covered in snow hats. The Japanese are dressed with traditional Japanese clothes, the men are dressed in ninja costumes, samurai whereas the women are dressed in beautiful kimonos. In the village you can find restaurants, gift shops, souvenir shops, street food cafes, theaters. The theaters offer different cultural shows, such as Ninja show, Oiran show, etc.

Great place to take the kids. Don't hope for high tech. Decent enough to be entertained for the day and getaway from the onsen.

An excellent place with beautiful scenery. The 3 shows are excellent and all the actors and actresses are very professional!! The place are so clean and tidy. The food are yummy. The loction is easily to go by bus from Noboribetsuonsencho. I know much more about Ninja. Very interesting and funny sightseeing spots. Will definitely go again with kids if have time.

Excellent, my only regret is not having more than 3 hours of time there - definitely the most memorable attraction I visited in my six weeks in Japan. The actors, the many details, lots of interesting historical facts... also good and engaging English translations (I noticed that English translations in Japan often sound extremely bland and uninspired - not here!) It's a must-see and would recommend it over anything else in Noboribetsu.
