Shimane Art Museum

A great museum sitting beside the beautiful Lake Shinji. I recommend visiting it in the afternoon so that you can have enough time to finish all the exhibitions and then see the sunset.

There’re buses twice or thrice every hour from the Izumo station and only takes 15 minutes.

Stunning museum by Shinji lake. It has a great restaurant, a museum shop, desks for studying and reading and a lookout for the lake.
Very beautiful sunlight comes into the museum with sunsets.
Just visiting there is free.

This museum has a great hospitalityfor visitors who want to watch sunset. It closes 30 minitues after the sunset. So you can enjoy the great view from here.
I miss the art works here because I didn't have time to see.

Very nice art museum, located along the river in Matsue. Permanent exhibition on the second floor with five galleries. Featuring some contemporary, photography, sculpture and 19th century painting pieces. The special gallery on the first floor, currently featuring works from Hokusai.

I've been to this museum more than 5 times now and I keep coming back! The exhibition is switched up from time to time, so I see something new every time I go. This time I visited to see the special exhibition featuring the works of Hokusai. The museum received a collection of Hokusai works, extensive enough that they will keep researching it for around 7 years apparently. The museum is right next to a huge lake, and it's known as a sunset-watching spot. The large grounds around it are a good spot to go to with children.

The museum itself is well organized and has interesting exhibits. Outside of it is a huge lawn, which is a relaxing spot to watch the sun sets into Lake Shiji, and kids can freely run around.

Surprisingly was impressed and enjoyed by this museum. Tate Johnson exhibition was on, which costed extra but even if you just choose to view the standard art museum on the second floor it is worth it.

Quiet, spacious art museum on the water. Collection emphasizes modern Japanese prints, photographs and paintings on the theme of water. Nice gift shop and restaurant on premises. This is the place to go to see sunset.

I just enjoy a sunset at here. The glass reflect s sun light, sea as well as peoples. Moreover, the curve shape of the glass makes you can see the same image if you stand on the right place. Great Design.

The art museum sits on the side of Lake Shinji, so the location is beautiful but the building is too. The permanent collections are housed on the second floor and it's not a huge space but there are some Hokusai woodblock prints, including several of the 36 Views of Fuji series. If you buy a ticket for a special exhibition, this will allow you to view the permanent exhibitions as well. There is rooftop terrace with views over the lake and lakeside is a well known photo spot for sunset. There are also artworks that can be viewed for free beside the lake. Free onsite parking available, but this is limited. Well worth a visit.

The location is impressive both inside and out side.

A pretty cool museum. They even have a Monet. The special exhibits are always fun. The restaurant is also very tasty

I honestly wasn't expecting a ton from this place, so I was blown away by the quality and quantity of what they have on exhibit. Not sure whether it's still required, but for a while you had to buy your tickets in advance online. Well-worth the minor hassle.

Worthwhile to spend time for their photography collection..it is also wise to soend time in cafe or the lounge to enjoy the sunset lakeview, provided the sky is clear:)

Beautiful museum with excellent exhibits. I've been several times while I lived in Matsue. Perfect for a sunny or rainy Sunday to relax and look at some art, or the library. The cafe is also great. I miss it!

Very beautiful sunset. Love the tranquility and the peaceful atmosphere. The collection is good. I love Hokusai's work a lot, so really enjoyed the visit.

Stunning modern architecture with ideal siting on east end of the lake. The collection focuses on artworks about water. Very interesting contemporary sculptures outside by the lakeshore.
