A charming and intriguing street filled with GeGeGe Kitaro vibes. Despite not being a fan, I could sense the incredible atmosphere. There are many stamps available for tourists to collect; it's a pity that I forgot to bring my stamp-collecting book.

Visited in Golden Week (May) 2022

Perhaps the most touristic place in the entire Shimane Peninsula, along side Izumo Taisha and Matsue Castle in the neighboring cities of Izumo and Matsue, respectively. I don't follow Gegege no Kitaro, so I just went there out of my curiosity and to enjoy the scenery and atmosphere. During the visit, I came from Yonago (where I stayed at) around noon, so even then most of the eateries, especially the famed kaisendon (sashimi rice bowl), were already closing down. However, the street was filled by tourists, whom were mostly going to visit the Kitaro Museum.

There are a lot of interesting bronze statues of monster from Gegege no Kitaro in display all over the street, which are very popular among tourists. It's a lovely place, albeit a bit too touristic to my liking, to have a stroll and do people watching.

Would say this is very nice road with many unique statues which is symbol of the town, nice walking side with many shop and restaurant, most are colorful and fun , clean, must try the crab bowl, very nice and come a bit earlier than lunch time (11:30am- 1:30pm) to be avoid long line. The seafood restaurant in the alley is good but very high price. Teas shop will have no coffee, but I found good one to try (sunaba coffee very good and there are food also). There is a small local bakery that make fresh small cake in statues form very interesting (long line is normal because come out hot when you odder). Some people sell food here is kind of countryside thinking, down looking on Asia people, more friendly and welcome white tourist, but I really spend all haftday here to shopping, taking picture and try street food, is very nice a little town to visit.

Mizuki Shigeru Road during the day and at dusk.
As the sun goes down, one gradually gets the illusion that a specter is about to appear.🌕

On the shopping street "Mizuki Shigeru Road", which was born in 1993, is a yokai road that runs for about 800 meters from Sakaiminato Station to the Mizuki Shigeru Memorial Museum. , there are a total of 177 bronze statues of yokai created by Mizuki, such as "Eyeball Oyaji" and "Kitaro"

I enjoy taking a photo so much.

One of my favorite manga so i love this place. Even those whom are not a fan of the manga should also visit. i would suggest to go for lunch there and museum with pictures for the day. Then stroll the street again for night view. Lots of food and interesting shops too for a whole day! Both kids and adults can enjoy. You can walk from Sakaiminato Station easily.

I came at the end of the day (around 6pm) so it was fairly deserted. Not many people walking around and majority of the businesses were closing or already closed. Definitely recommend coming earlier in the day so you can properly experience the Mizuki Shigeru Road.

I did walk all the way down the road and back up again to see all the statues. It was really fun and interesting! I went here only because I knew it was a famous spot in Japan -- I knew nothing about Gegege no Kitaro before coming. At the beginning of the road by the train station, there are some statues with explanations in English that give you a brief intro to the story. I'm sure I could have learned more if I'd come during business hours. I didn't even make it to the visitor's center/museum sadly.

An excellent tribute to the manga and characters of Mizuki Shigeru. Especially at night, the lights and spooky sounds make the youkai village come alive. Fun for the whole family.

Super fun for our kiddo!! She had fun going through all the mini sculptures by the popular manga artist Mizuki Shiveru! There were about 150 of them on the 800m long walk. At night you can enjoy the illuminated statues. To bad it’s COVID, even on a weekend, the entire street was a ghost town as all stores and shops and even the museums were closed. We enjoyed the quite atmosphere however. Children will definitely enjoy looking at tiny interesting sculptures.

Nobody was there at 11pm and they made us so excited. It’s fun to walk through this road even after shops in the street are closed. Feel Yokai cultures there!
