Magnificent construction of great blocks of marble including the fascinating green marble of Prato. The cathedral has a beautifully decorated chapel dedicated to the girdle of Maria and a unique round platform outside where this precious relique is shown on days dedicated to Maria as is the city of Prato - una città Marianna. A lovely church with regular services and very much worth a visit - very few if any tourists. If you want to see the frescoes behind the altar you have to buy a ticket from the rather scommodo ticket seller go outside and down under. But it's not essential .

If you're taking a train from Bologna to Firenze, I suggest making a stop in Prato. Peacefull, smaller town, almost no tourists. The Duomo is vorth the visit, and later you can have a dinner or gelato in one of many places near the city Square.

From the outside this looks like another Renaissance cathedral in another Tuscan city. And just like all the others, this one is worth stopping in to look around. It is smaller than the Duomos in Sienna and Florence, but no less impressive. Mary's sash is here, protected in a case as it is only brought out on special occasions. There are frescoes by Lippi here that are incredibly impressive as well.

Very beautiful.
Not crowded. So ideal also for praying and seeing the architecture/art without being disturbed by a crowd of tourists.

Prato is really a nice place, calm but full of historical buildings and delicious foods. Near by Florence and easily you can take bus or train here to go and come back. i definitly advice you to visit here.

I love the whole area and how italians save this historical places .
Afternoon after 4 a O'Clock whole area almost in shade and this is the only building sun shining on magical to see.
