Pompey! A place where life stopped in its prime! A place where silence weighs on the ears, where the former greatness of a thousand-year history was literally discovered and freed from tons of ash and earth. It is very interesting and informative to wander through the streets of what was once one of the most famous cities of antiquity!

Take your time to closely explore this place and to immerse yourself in the ancient history of Pompeii. I would strongly recommend you either hire a local guide or bring a guide book to get the most out your visit. This place will require a minimum of two or three hours to just get a flavor of the history and culture of this site.

Great experience, make sure to carry hat, water and have enough food before starting. Takes 2-3 hours
The amphitheater is a must see, while they don't let you go to the top, it is fascinating to see its great acoustics.
The main square and bath houses preserved from devastation due to the volcanic ash are both haunting and beautiful
The remains of bodies trapped are preserved in a great way, they are right next to the still used vineyard.
The Rocky and uneven terrain means it would probably be a bit difficult to manage for someone in a wheelchair or differently abled. Would also recommend a guided tour. On our own, we were limited by time to see and appreciate this ancient marvel, so even the charge for a guide is 100% worth it. The maps and other provided free resources are not very useful, as some specific sites were cordoned off and we only came to know about it once we reached the site. So tour guide is required to spend time effectively here

This place is also decently far from Naples, and a return ticket train booking should be done beforehand. Plan which train you want to come in on and go back to naples from. Train frequency is not that high. It should be a day trip from Naples and back. From the railway it is a short bus ride away or you can even walk of you have time. Make sure to fill up your water bottles before entering. Also make sure you carry a snack instead of buying there. Inside there is very little in terms of food

Visiting during summer will require hat and sunglasses. The orange juice served outside is worth every penny, don't miss it

Once in, make sure you don't stand in ticket purchase line, and head right to the reservation line. Booking in advance is an absolute must, else you'll end up overpaying or not getting any admission

Take the time to look at all the artefacts in the museum, they are all amazing.

Incredible experience seeing what is for all purposes, a frozen snapshot of the far past. Should be on everybody's bucket list. Definitely worth booking a tour because there's a lot to see here and it is easy to be overwhelmed without somebody to explain everything to you as you walk around.

Just wow! That's really good place, it's simple to go there with your own car too they have good parking spots and it's simple to go there. Really beautiful place to visit. If you're 18-25 Eu person then the tickets costs only 2 euros! You have to see this place for sure! The audio guide is simple to use, you'll get their phone with map of museum, but you'll have to leave your id card, but the staff is really friendly and talks really good in English.

Absolutely fascinating and mesmerising but also sad. The preservation is outstanding and when you realise the suffering that people went through, not only from the eruption, but also in the arena where slaves were slaughtered, its quite a moving experience.
There was a lot to see and we ended up going back for a second day to make sure we took it all in.
It's been on my list for a long time and I'm so glad I've finally done it.
My only complaint is the tour guides, they're a menace. They take over the place with their big groups like hoards of zombies in the walking dead. They can make it difficult for others at times when they block streets or completey take over buildings.
Still really enjoyed it though.
It was 22 euros for online skip the queue tickets for our first day. On the second day it was slightly cheaper to pay on the gate at 19 euros each and we queued for about 15 mins. With the skip the queue we had to go and find the ticket office to collect our tickets so we were just as well to pay on the gate and queue. A bit weird as at herculaneum, I just showed the ticket on my phone at the entrance.

One of the ancient wonders of the world. If you are reading this you know what you are looking at and what you expect from visiting. It is all of those things and more. Highly recommended, although I will say ensure you take plenty of water and some food as there site is under resourced in terms of food halls and toilets

The site is huge! Count at least an afternoon if you want to have insight because you'll get lost easily in the archeology park and it's very interesting. I went a Tuesday afternoon in October and enter from the Pompei Scavi. I didn't have a ticket and I didn't have to wait to get one. Very easy to access. I highly recommended. I personally think that 19€ worth it

Very interesting to see so many aspects of 1st century life. This is in effect a site of a great disaster and is treated as such with great respect and dignity.

Really enjoyed visiting Pompeii. Definitely one of my favorite days of our trip. Tickets can be purchased at the site easily.

You can explore for hours. Definitely head up the castle to get a spectacular view over the city. If your looking for the famous cast of the 23 year old girl, it’s at the exit in the museum/gift shop.

You have to pay for the toilets at the beginning but not at the exit.

Completely worth it! Signed up for a walking tour in the morning with an archaeologist who was great and pointed out lots of interesting information. There’s a café inside (not cheap but does a good lunch range) so grabbed a takeaway salad and sat in the gardens by the amphitheatre, cool and breezy was needed - hot day. Spent some time in the afternoon exploring the rest of the site - there was still plenty to see after the tour, the place is huge!

It would be sacrilegious to be in Naples and not venture out to visit Pompeii!! We booked tour tickets well in advance so we did not have to line up or wait to enter the archeological site. Even if you end up with a great tour guide, I'd recommend reading about the volcanic eruption of Vesuvius that mostly destroyed Pompeii in BCE79 before you visit. It'll make the time you spend there more meaningful and enjoyable.

What a site. Even larger and more extensive then when I last came. Wish they would do two day passes, one isn't quite enough. The sheer scale of the ruins and details of all the houses, shops and baths plus the theatres and amphitheatre. Really spectacular.

Welcome addition of a snack bar, even if the service is slow and with a scowl! The pizza was still good.

What to say . . .
We spent an entire day here, and the sensation was that there were a few things left to see.
It's a huge roman city where you can have a very good idea of what living in Roman times. The city was buried in ash during the eruption of the vesuvius volcan in 79AD. There are loads of streets with houses, stores with the frescoes still visible. The thermal area is very well preserved, and you can still walk around and inside the Amphitheatre. There are statues, columns, and artefacts, there are "fossilised" plastered bodies from the eruption, etc..
Inside they have bathrooms and a food place as well.
Loved it!

As a visitor to Rome, the most interestingly historic cities I had ever toured, I was amazed by the so near perfectly preserved state of Pompeii, which predates everything visible in Rome (at least that i can recall). The culture and intellect revealed under the excavated ashes really bring to light how human our history is: the humor, the trade, the religion, and the debauchery. It's worth a visit, for sure. There are local private and group tours, as well as free online audio tours available. We visited in early February, and there were no crowds. I'm told it can get quite crowded in the summer, making it difficult to see and photograph some of the more popular and interesting sites inside the ruins.

Beautiful and informative. I spent 5 hours walking around and saw 30% of the exhibits.

There are some restrooms and snacks available here and there. But prepare to walk a lot. Summers can be warm.

Great historical place, touristy, all-day walks. It was nice to learn about history and feel the real rock that build this place. The Pompeii vast archaeological site is in southern Italy’s Campania region.

Must prepare water and kids should be close to the parents because kids can be lost in such a huge wave of tourists.
