Skyrhúsid HI-Hostel

Lovely and wholesome place. Other guests are considerate and nice. Overall a very quiet environment with plenty of privacy. You have your own room but share bathrooms. There are multiple bathrooms with showers. Free drinks and refreshments. Place is very clean, organized, and feels very home. You cannot beat a price like this. A lot of wholesome Christmas decorations. They even fold your laundry when you pay for wash and dry. 10/10.

This was my first experience in a guest house and I’m glad to say it was great!
Most ideal location for activities near the lake and access to diamond beach in the day and at sunset.
We arrived late evening to check in with nice welcome by the lovely Greek couple.
The entrance, kitchen and rooms were quite cute and very cosy. Everything was very clean. The bathrooms were nicely done with small bath mats to change after each person and disposable hand towels for cleanliness. We also had our own sink in the room. The kitchen had a great lay out for a few people to operate together in the space. Many clean quality pots and plates to use. There was teas, coffees, juice, Icelandic yogurt and homemade cake complimentary which adds a nice touch. We are particularly thankful for Andrews aurora alert, calling everyone out for our chance to see a beautiful sky!

Great location! 12 minutes from diamond beach, lovely kitchen with skyr, coffee, juices included. Warm and welcoming greeting from the host. We were just here to sleep so I can’t say too many other details.

Very friendly hosts - Mike and I forget the other gentleman’s name, made us feel welcome. The rooms and common areas were very clean, and signs are everywhere to please take off shoes to keep the black sand from beaches from the floor. Coffee, tea, and juice is free, and they baked Icelandic marriage cakes for the guests. Only 10 minutes away from Jökulsárlón means you can get there early before the parking lot fills up!

Skyrhúsid is a great place for Jökulsárlón and the south coast. We stayed there 2 night in early September and felt great. The staff is very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed the delicious homemade cake. The rooms and bathrooms are really spacious and clean. The kitchen can get crowded but everything goes smooth one just might to need to wait a little while. This gives also the chance to get in contact with other travellers - always a very interesting.
If I will be around again I'll choose it again - hope it is available.

The place was perfect. It was very very clean. The host (I think Mike was his name) was a really nice guy who was always overlooking for everything to be in order and he was very kind to everyone. He even baked an Icelandic cake! We definitely recommend it.

This guesthouse was completely adorable and cozy! Rooms were nice and clean. Coffee and tea was available. We didn’t use the kitchen but it was possible to do basic things like boiling water and whatnot. Staff was very kind and overall really enjoyed our night there!

We've been positively surprised by the warm welcome and a tasty happy marriage cake. :)
The rooms are small but clean and the beds are good. The shared bathrooms are clean.
The kitchen could be used to heat our food (no cooking), is clean and the free coffee and juice are awesome.
We'd go here again.

Friendliest and most helpful staff we found in Iceland! Great location for Glacier Lagoon or any other South Coast activities. Very clean and with two restaurant options for dinner or cooking for yourself you can't go wrong.

Very warm welcome with self made delicious cake by an amazing man from Greece. Everything clean, free juice, coffee, tea, … Will recommend this place, great value (and heart!) for money. Thank you a lot!

Really nice hostel!

Staff is friendly and even shared home baked cake (including recipe 😋).

Kitchen is clean and fully equipped (only boiling allowed instead of baking or frying). There is also bean coffee machine freely available together with juices and milk.

Shared bathroom is clean as well (multiple available).

Perfect! This place is incredible! It’s a real home from home. The BEST part are the hosts, they were warm, welcoming, friendly and super interesting to chat to. We loved the kitchen facilities and chatting to other guests while cooking and relaxing. There are swings and a see-saw, which our kids loved. Across the car park is a wonderful restaurant. It’s in a great location for diamond beach and the glacier. Top tip: go to the glacier on 2 days as diamond beach varies dramatically how many ice diamonds there are based on wind direction.

Recently went around the ring road, this place was easily my favorite hostel that I stayed at. From the moment I walked in, the staff was extremely hospitable and kind. The rooms were very clean and well organized, the bathrooms were clean as well. Great kitchen area, and great location near glacier lagoon and the beach. Shoutout to the guy that hooked me up with the right charger and the lady who made me coffee in the morning.

Great kitchen but no real grocery options nearby so stop on your way in! Clean and comfortable.

Everything was clean and the kitchen had everything we needed. The other guests respected the rules to take off their shoes and be quiet between 22:00 and 07:00, which made it very comfortable to stay here. The hosts are both very friendly and helpful. Will definitely come again!

Lovely place with gorgeous views and sparking clean kitchen and toilet. Julia is the loveliest caretaker and went out of her way to make our stay special making us a little wedding cake when I mentioned to her we were recently married! Not to mention the adorable note. She's super generous and got some fish jerky for an other traveller to try.

I saw some reviews about the toilets to rooms ratio, but the toilets were sparking clean and I never had to wait for my turn. The rooms all have a little washbasin. It's important to note that the kitchen is not for any kind of frying or using oil when cooking. I reccomend getting ramen, or anything that can be easily boiled, or a simple salad.

10/10 would go there again!

There is a super clean and nice kitchen with some pasta and sauce to buy if you forgot to shop food. Here are no supermarkts!
You can drink coffee, tea and juice - which is super attentive.
Behind the house you can make a beautiful short evening walk.
Right next to the house you can book glacier tours.
We liked it here :)

Very nice and cozy place to stay. They offer free juice, coffee and cake, and it feels like you're at home (but with people from other countries that you don't know).

This place was excellent!! The staff were so friendly and accommodating. We were soaking wet and cold after getting caught in a storm, and they dried our clothes for us and made sure we were taken care of. Rooms were clean and the kitchen was very nice. Cozy hostel that I will surely visit again.

What a lovely guesthouse. I was nervous about the shared bathrooms, but we didn't have any issues with waiting. There are four bathrooms, each fully equipped minus a mirror (to prevent extended preening). Our bedroom also had a sink and mirror, which was very helpful. The room was charming, had blackout curtains and comfortable linens. Our hostess was easy to reach and we had no issues arranging check in. We ate at the cafe next-door for dinner and breakfast and were impressed with the food choices and coffee.
