Samúel Jónsson's Art Farm

Down a gravel road, 15 miles from Bíldudalur, I stumbled across this gem.
There was someone there and they gave a tour and history of the place. Even had coffee for sale. I left a donation at the box out front. Seemed appropriate for this little surprise in the middle of nowhere.

The long car ride to get to Samúel Jónsonn’s Art Farm was well worth it. It was really fun, kind voulenteers guided us through. If you sre neer, go there

Small nice place with an interesting history, managed by volunteers that are happy to greet visitors.

It was such a nice suprise! I loved everything about the experience!

Samúel Jónsson was a farmer from this area who, after the loss of his wife in his late years, started to live a life in isolation. In that isolation he began to "play" with sculpting and painting, also attempting to recreate monuments he had only seen in photographs. Nowadays a team of German enthusiasts is attempting to restore as much of his farm and works as possible. The place is a gem hidden in the solitude and emptiness of the area.

It was worth the bumpy rough road to get there.

As we arrived we thought it's was not worth the drive.
After reading this guy made those sculptures around 1958.... maybe we should of made the eff& go in?
From the outside it looked somewhat childish. I guess we'll never know!
We did love the road!!

Der Weg dorthin am besten mit einen 4x4 und der Weg dorthin mit den Stränden etc ist sehr schön. Für das Museum muss man den Weg und die Zeit nicht auf sich nehmen

This was sort of kitch and fun to visit. If you're looking for high art don't come here looking for that. It's fun to see but very lacking in any technical skill. Kind of cool though. Sort of reminds me of the Heidelberg project in Detroit if you've ever seen that. Except different medium being used. Decide for yourself.
