Pleasing & tranquil region. Not to be confused with Namthing Salamander Lake, This is another mesmerizing place on the left slope of Darjeeling Hill Cart Road before Sonada. Best for spending time with Self. The place is quite clean. Please don't Litter 🙏🙏🙏

The Himalayan Salamandars are one of the endangered species and are said to be found in this area. the place is situated about 14 km from Kurseong and is very peaceful. Its a place which is relatively unknown to the tourists so even if you don't get to see the salamandars the place has a charm of its own and is a must visit!! This is a sanctuary for himalayan black salamanders. It's located approximately 14km from the town of kurseong. More towards Sonada actually. Surrounded by tea gardens ,this is a quiet place for nature lovers. The conditions of the road leading to this place makes it at uncommon destination for the usual tourists. Monsoon is the best time to visit if you really want to see the salamanders. Remember these salamanders may be the rarest of animals but they are not necessarily the most beautiful. Imagine a large tadpole with legs.Try not to polite this already fragile environment so I wouldn't recommend picnicking or snacking at this site. Salamander Lake is situated at Kurseong. In the past, it used to be a favourite place for the British for boating and people from the neighbouring towns used to hang out here frequently. It is a beautiful green-tinged lake that shelters the rarest and most endangered species of salamanders a species under threat of extinction.

The Salamander Lake, also known as Bhangzang/Bhanjyang Lake is located a few kilometres below Sonada town tucked amidst the rolling hills of tea plantations. Hidden away from tourists, the lake is a natural sanctuary to the endangered Himalayan black salamanders. Once a favourite haunt of the British visitors in the colonial era, the lake has undergone disasters and restorations since then. Quite small in size, the lake is nevertheless a beautiful nature park where locals love to hangout for a brief, relaxing respite.
