The Bhakra Dam, found in Bhakra village in the Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh, is now a favorite spot for tourists, as is the nearby Nangal Dam. These dams, some of the tallest in the world, were built to stop floods in the Satluj-Beas river. You can visit between 8 AM and 4 PM IST, and it's a good place to enjoy with your family.

The journey after collection of permit was smooth. After a mini ghat section ,the moment you have the first glimpse of the engineering marvel, you really feel proud. You need not be an engineer to appreciate the construction. Just stand and admire. You are not supposed to click any images , for security reasons but visitors hardly obey that , which is sad.
Overall , this is a milestone of INDIAN History which every Indian should visit and admire

Best to visit bhakra Village where we can boating and also feels like Hills Beach.

This dam is a very good place for children to roam. This is the biggest dam of India. Many people needed laborers to build this dam. The best part is this. There is a train coming to this dam in which no fare is charged. Due to being the biggest dam of India, the security here is very security arrangement. This is a big thing near the dam in which voting takes place. Here is a very good place for children to visit and for older people. There are many restaurants near the lake. That ji takes out fresh fish from us and that fish looks very good to eat. Do try it once. There are many greenery trees around the lake and there is a very nice environment which is good for good health by staying here every single night and there is Baba Balak Nath and Naina Devi temple to visit here. Permission is made before coming on time to come to Bhakra Dam.

It's an amazing place to visit. My journey to this place was mesmerizing. The scenery, locations, and other facilities were just outstanding. Though you need a permit to visit the place and the good thing is that it takes only 5 mins to get it. The place has a wide significance in our country's growth.

The view of the place is mind-blowing and being there it's hard to believe that you are in India. The place is well maintained by the authorities. There you can have snacks and other amenities. However, you can also go boating in Gobind Sagar which costs approx 400/- Rs for 15 mins.

Bhakra Dam is situated across the Satluj River, Bhakra Village (upstream) in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh.
Its reservoir is known as 'Gobind Sagar' which stores up to 9.34 billion cubic meters of water.
Jawaharlal Nehru honourably called it as the "New Temple of Resurgent India."
It takes around 2.5 hours to travel from Bilaspur to Bhakra Nangal Dam. Also, Nangal Bus stand is 20 km from Bhakra. Bus services are quite prominent, and roads are well connected to the dam.
Private boating is available in bhakra village and people can visit Bhakra museum but it requires permit.

Amazing architectural excellence on Sutlej river!! You will surely love the view from the Bhakra Dam as its amazing. The greenery and cleanliness is well maintained. Camera and clicking pictures is prohibited there due to security reasons. The statue of Jawaharlal Nehru at the top of the hill is also good. If you going from Nangal side, make sure to have a pass otherwise they will not let you enter the museum. Also make sure you have Adhaar Card as well to pass the checkpost. Avoid late evening/night travel as this is single road with many diversions.

This dam is fully made by the concrete. There are two sides of the dam, one side is full of the water of the river Satluj and the other side is connecting the canals used for irrigation purpose and the hydropower plant for the production of electricity.

The dam, at 741 ft (226 m), is one of the highest gravity dams in the world (compared to USA's largest Oroville Dam at 770 ft). The 166 km2 Gobindsagar Reservoir, this dam which is the third largest reservoir in India the first being Indira Sagar Dam and second Nagarjunasagar Dam. The river Satluj used to flow through a narrow gorge between two hills, Naina Devi ki dhar and Ramgarh ki dhar, and the site was chosen to dam the river. The large map
Bhakra dam was part of the larger multipurpose Bhakra Nangal Project whose aims were to prevent floods in the Satluj-Beas river valley, to provide irrigation to adjoining states and also to provide hydro-electricity. It also became a tourist spot for the tourists during later years because of its huge size and uniqueness.
It also has four spillway gates that are only used when the reservoir exceeds the maximum allowed level.
Nangal dam is a barrage dam that is 10 km downstream of Bhakra dam

Across the Sutlej River, Bhakra Nangal, located in the Bilaspur district is the largest dam in India. This gravity dam with a height of 225 meters is the second largest dam in Asia. Bhakra Nangal's reservoir, which is called 'Gobind Sagar' can hold up to 9.34 billion cubic meters of water and is the third-largest reservoir in India. The dam has ten power generators on either side and protects the fields from any damages during monsoons. Unfortunately, it has been closed to visitors due to some security reasons.

The Bhakhra Dam visit was a memorable visit for me. I had been there with my some friends to watch one of the biggest dams in India. When we reached there we saw the beauty of the civil engineering. What a construction is it. This dam is fully made by the concrete. There are two sides of the dam, one side is full of the water of the river Satluj and the other side is connecting the canals used for irrigation purpose and the hydropower plant for the production of electricity. The side which holds the water of Satluj, that side looks like a see. The blue, deep and pure water sines with the sunlight make the dam to look very splendid. Here we knew about the history of this dam. One who loves the beautiful construction in nature's lap should visit here.

It's a beautiful place to visit. Actuallu Bhakra and Nangal both are different dams apart by few kilometres. You can reach Nangal dam easily but if you want to visit Bhakra be prepared for questionnaires as you need to obtain permit to visit this place. And only Aadhar or Voter ID card is accepted as ID proof. So carry one of these along with. There will be around 4 to 5 security check post and you have to verify your permit at each and every check post. But the scenic beauty of this place is just mind boggling. So a must visit for all tourists. You can even reach Naina Devi Mandir also it's 20KM from the Bhakra Dam.

The Bhakra-Nangal Dam is the second tallest dam in Asia and located in the border of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. It is the highest straight gravity dam in India with the height of about 207.26 meters and it runs across 168.35 km.

Bhakra Nangal Dam has a length of 518.25(1,700 ft) meters and a width of 9.1 meters (30ft) approximately.

On October 22, 2013, the government of India approved the release of a stamp to mark the 50th anniversary of the dam as it was the only dam that could produce 1500 MW power during that time.
