The palace is conserved and presented to the local public and tourists as a historical attraction. The ground floor is converted into the Shahu Maharaj Museum. It showcases the clothes, weapons, testimonials, from the royal family. The museum also keeps in display the hunting hobby of kings of the Maratha Empire. The collection includes stuffed tigers, tiger heads, blackbuck, bears, Himalayan black bear, black panther, wild boar and several deer varieties. Some letters from the British viceroy during the time of freedom struggle are also kept in the display.

Shahu Palace, also known as New Palace. The architecture of this museum is very beautiful and very attractive. A look at the museum, the objects used by the Maharajas and the hunts they took gives a sense of their royal splendor and bravery. The museum and palace grounds are magnificent and equally clean.

A great museum to look back on in our great history pages. The hunted animals are the main attraction over here. Also, the guns & swards which you can touch & feel the history. Also, cleanliness is one of the good points in Shahu Palace.(Ticket Price is 40)

A really good place to explore Marathas way of living with the level of exhibits collected. A guide service would be much appreciated to understand it In depth instead of having to google it every second. Photography is not allowed inside which is a bummer. But maybe it’s cause to create that excitement which is totally worth it.
It is really good for all ages and really fun with its play area and a lot of deers and birds around are just a delight.

PS- if you are visiting for the first time, you have to buy the tickets in the entrance of the huge gates and not when u enter palace to avoid almost a kilometre or drive.
No where is it mentioned ticket counter, so as soon as you spot huge gates just stop by and buy them.

The total palace have many exhibits which shows how the king lived and all the things used by them on day to day basis.
Many artifacts available used weapons, photographs, achievements, houseware etc

The palace has furniture used by Shahu Maharaj, weapons used in wars, animals killed by him, his cloths, ornaments, etc!
There is a sabha(assembly) hall with king throne, the architecture is amazing.
Loved the palace, you’ll be taken back in time!

The palace is quaint and beautiful epsecially if you visit on a weekday when it isn't overcrowded. The main structure and architecture are stunning and the garden with lush green lawn outside are super pleasant. You can spend a lot of time here looking at the artifacts in museum, strolling in the park and looking at the deers and birds at the mini-zoo outside the palace. All in all we had a truly memorable visit to Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Palace.

Historical places always have something to offer, unfortunately the cameras are not allowed inside the premises.. however you will be amazed by seeing the collection. It's one of my favourite things to do when I go to Kolhapur..

I recently visited the Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj Museum Palace, and it was a captivating experience. The museum showcased an impressive collection of hunting weapons, ornate chairs, and a diverse array of animals hunted by Shahu Maharaj. The highlight for me was the intricate taxidermy work on the displayed animals, providing a unique glimpse into the historical hunting culture. The palace's rich history and the well-preserved artifacts make it a must-visit for history enthusiasts.

The place is awesome. The museum artifacts are also great. Rare weapons, old guns, paintings. It has more to offer than just Kolhapur throne history.

The garden around the palace is nice.

Entry fee is Rs 40 for adults and Rs 20 for children (5 to 15 years)

The museum display needs renovation though. People have written on walls and it could be the reason most paintings are a copy instead of originals. Need to fix wall paints and armoury section display can be made more attractive.

It was a great experience to visit the place. They are very well maintained palace and instruments, guns, etc. They do not provide permission to capture images in phones or camera. Here, you can get knowledge about the chatrapati shivaji maharaj family tree as well as oil paintings of maharaj.

Nice place to visit, specially with children's, It has a very good museum to explore, also a small open zoo in surrounding.

One of must visit place in Kolhapur.

Try to visit at afternoon, probably post lunch.

Ticket to visit Museum, but if you don't have much time, visit outside zoo, take pictures with Palace.
