Kikali Shree Bhairavnath Temple - Satara District, Maharashtra, India

Very beautiful and ancient temple having many shivlings, ancient carvings.Temple is near to pune Bangalore highway. It has main temple having 2 shivlings and bhairavnath idol and nandi in middle.surrounding temple there are many murals depicting how people celebrated various occasions. There is a government school inside premises and kids step on them which quite sad to see. The site is under maintenance by ASI.

A very beautiful, Bhairavnath Temple situated in Kikali village approximately 20 kms from Satara. It is an ancient Temple and is believed to be built during the Yadava period. As the name suggest the temple is dedicated to Shri Bhairavnath. It is one among the 14 important Bhairavnath temples in Maharashtra. The temple has many carved scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata. There are two Bhairavnath murtis in the temple, a beautiful carved Nandi in the main hall, few naga sculptures, deepastambha (lamp post), Ganapati murti, and murtis of multiple deities in the premise. The temple is surrounded by a stone wall.

The temple is not know to many, but its worth a visit.

It's a protected heritage temple under the department of archaeology for state of Maharashtra. The temple has been repaired or renovated recently. The area around temple has number of Hero-Stones, which tells us stories about the warriors or heroes of the village Kikali.

Shri Bhairavnath temple in Kikwi, off the Pune-Satara highway is one of the oldest temples with beautiful carvings and sculptures. From Pune a one day trip to Bhairavnath temple at Kikwi and the 12 motechi vihir at Limb can be easily explored. The adjoining temples were demolished during invasion or were abandoned due to epidemics and this temple is the only one that stands erect today as well .
