Gorakhpur Airport (IATA: GOP, ICAO: VEGK) , officially Mahayogi Gorakhnath Airport, is a domestic airport and an Indian Air Force base serving the city of Gorakhpur, in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) operates it as a civil enclave at the Air Force base. The airport is located 8 km (5.0 mi) from the city centre. The airport covers an area of 0.71 acres (0.29 ha). In June 2017, the passenger terminal was inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.

The airport is one of the bases of the Indian Armed Forces (IAF), which operates under Central Air Command of the Indian Air Force. IAF operates No. 16 Squadron IAF, No. 27 Squadron IAF and No. 105 Helicopter Unit from here. These squadrons have regular military exercises; other than this, they actively take part in rescue operations. SEPECAT Jaguar aircraft and Mil Mi-17 helicopters are based here.

Gorakhpur airport is situated in Gorakhpur air base it's around 5 km to kudaghat chauraha, and 3 km to AIMS Gorakhpur...there are lots of flight like Indigo, spicejet, AirAsia for the city like Lucknow, allahabad, Delhi,banglore etc

Gorakhpur Airport is a well-maintained and convenient regional facility with friendly staff and efficient check-in procedures.

Very good service as a domestic airport, child care room available, staffs are polite and helpful, clean, the only thing which will bother u are monkeys on waiting lodge.

It's really good to have airport in Gorakhpur for public use as this was not public airport in 2017 I think this has been public somewhere in 2018 and now we have direct flight from Gorakhpur to Delhi Bangalore Kolkata etc and from 31st March we will be having direct flight for Mumbai really awesome for who works in Mumbai and from near by Gorakhpur .

We don't have much eatable store inside airport as it's not fully public and you will not get any shop outside airport also I can talk about location

Flight Information

Currently, direct flights are only available to Delhi from Gorakhpur Airport and are operated by Jet Konnect and Jet Airways. The airlines run 12 weekly flights between Delhi and Gorakhpur. Single stop flights are also available to other cities like Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jabalpur, Chennai, and Gaya. These flights are also operated by Jet Airways.

Terminals

There is only one terminal at the airport, servicing arrivals and departures. The total capacity of the terminal is 18 each for arrivals and departures.

Digi Yatra is not available at gorakhpur airport, there was no rush so check-in was smooth

This is basically a defence airport. But this airport is also using for commercial use. There are many flights to major cities.

New entrance is well built. Far far better than what it used to be 2 years ago. AIIMS is operational now.

It's a defence airport operated for civilian the services were very nice. Its a good initiative to connect the Gorakhpur and nearby city to they world by the means of air transportation
