One of the most famous and oldest Hindu Temple in Murshidabad district. It is one of the Satipith.
According to Hindu mythology,' kirit ' or skull of Goddess Sati had been fallen in this place. Other said, the crown of Goddess Sati had been fallen here.
By the way, Very beautiful and calm place. May Goddess Sati bless us.

this is one of the 51 Sakti Peetha where parts of Sati's body fell. This is where Sati's Kirit or Tiara or crown fall. It is a sacred and 300+ year old place. The original murti is worshipped on special occessions only.

One of the 51 Sati-Piths. Holy place, peaceful ambiance, popular place for pilgrims, lot of historical evidences were damaged in British era and by Mughal Empires.

It's a nice place to visit as a day trip and get some earthy flavor of village life. One can also enjoy the Mela during the winter.

Kiriteshwari Temple (Bengali: কিরীটেশ্বরী মন্দির) is situated in Kiritkona village under the Nabagram Community Development Block, just beside the Panchagram-Nabagram-Lalbagh Road, in the district of Murshidabad in West Bengal. This is among one of the 51 peeths.

According to the Puranas or Hindu mythology, the place was named as Kiriteswari. Peeth devi name is devi Vimala and Bhairab is Samvarta. The construction of the temple is more than 1000 years old and this place was considered to be the sleeping place of Mahamaya. Local people call this temple as Mahismardini Temple. The deity is also worshipped as Mukuteshwari as her mukut or crown fell. The original temple was destroyed in 1405. The present temple was re-constructed by Darpanarayan, king of Lalgola in the 19th century and this is the oldest mark of architecture amongst 51 Sati Peethas. It is the oldest temple in the Murshidabad district. There is a myth that Nawab Mir Jaffar in his death bed had requested for the holy Charanamrito (the holy water) of Maa Kiriteswari while suffering from leprosy.

Because of some unexpected and unlucky incidents, the original deity was stolen and that's why a new idol was build and in off seasons, it is kept in a safe place which is unknown to all and in special occasions, the idol is being brought and worshipped and the pilgrims offer their prayers. A separate new idol was built by then king and since then it is kept in a new temple, bulit beside the old temple.

Its is situated in a very remote village. I personally went there first by crossing the Bhagirathi River from the Hazarduari Ghat, then took a cycle van and reached there. I don't know the exact distance but it is too far from Hazarduari Palace. Other options are also there but, to be honest, I am totally unaware of it.

One of the Shaktipithas located 11kms from Azimganj Junction station. A must visit place for tourists to Murshidabad. The name "Kirit" means forehead. Devi's forehead is believed to have dropped here, brining the present name for the place. The place has a rich cultural heritage.
People reaching Murshidabad (either side-Jiaganj/Azimganj) can reach the place by hiring a local vehicle TOTO. Coming early by 10 can ensure booking Prasad as lunch.
The structure of the main mandir stands as a epitome of the confluence of Buddhist, Islamist and Hindu beliefs.
It is indeed a surprising fact that neither any Govt nor the Archaeological Survey of India has taken any step for restoration as well as maintenance of our rich heritage. The place deserves a better maintenance.

This is one of the most visited place in Murshidabad. If you are in Murshidabad do visit this place. It will take around 45 to 1 hour to reach this place from hazarduari via toto. But the temple is awesome and the pundit is so nice man. He will tell you about the history of this temple. A must visit place. Highly recommended place. Do visit early because it is far from actual town area .it is located in a rural area

Very underrated as a holy place but well known among people for the fair and picnic spot. The fair starts in mid December and continues till January

Pros: no wait time, not commercialized like other famous temples. So you can peacefully spend time exploring the surroundings and offering prayers.

Cons: located in the outskirts of town and at a considerable distance from other tourist attractions so a private vehicle or rental is a must recommend.

Overall, it was a really great experience. The Pundits/ Priests were very cordial, mostly a village and the people around were very helpful. The closest landmark would be Dahapara Dham station, can visit another great spiritual attraction with the same name on route. Otherwise the Lalbagh station would be the closest large station.

Have fun!
