Buying ticket is very easy and affordable. You can also book your tickets online. It’s a very good and very underrated place for family. They have a small cafeteria as well. You are not allowed to claim on the trains, else you’ll be fined ₹500. They have joytrain as well. You can buy its ticket from counter. You will find mostly all type of vintage engines.

Highly recommended for train buffs and for a family outing. Lots of old steam locomotives on display, informative and decently well maintained museum too. The joy train goes around the campus.

The cafe food and service is below average though, so don’t plan to eat there.

Suggestions for improvement:

The locomotives could have had more information displayed to describe their history, the journeys they have undertaken, and more.

Better options for snacks than the cafe.

Wish there was an operational steam locomotive for train buffs. Can understand that with the pollution levels in Delhi this might not be a possibility at all, but there’s nothing like witnessing a steam locomotive in action - the steam, the whistle, the massive pistons and connecting rods, and the sense of drama and history that it brings!

This was my second visit after a gap of 10 years and it is still the same. The engine and compartments are very well preserved. Educate your child with India's Railway History. There is a toy train ride and a Railway museum as well. They also have a food court which is very affordable.

The National Rail Museum in Delhi is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, technology, or simply looking for a unique and engaging day out. Spread over 11 acres, the museum offers a comprehensive look at the rich history of Indian Railways, from its humble beginnings in the 1850s to its modern marvels.
If you're visiting during the hot summer months, be prepared for the heat, especially in the outdoor galleries. While the museum is generally accessible, some areas might pose challenges for people with disabilities.

Indian Rail Museum is a very good place for children, there is also a toy train for children, in which adults also can ride, it gives a ride of approximately 6-7 minutes, which is under the museum area, here engines and bogies of trains can be seen, for visit national rail museum the time 1-2 hours is sufficient.

Because our nephew loves trains we went there.
The area is nice and well maintained.
The inside part is very informative and nicely prepared for kids.

Outside there is a small train going around the park, which is a nice to have.

Everywhere are old trains from all over the world in which you can climb yourself and check out.

In the end we went to the restaurant, the food is affordable and tasty, but for people with stroller or wheelchair it is not convenient as there are too many stairs.

All in all a nice experience.

Good place for family visit. Toy train is plus, both adult and childrens allowed. Enough parking, before 1pm is usually less crowded. Alter that you have to be in ling queue for toy train. Meusium is also good, presenting historical development of Indian railways. Also defines some common signaling definitions and train workings that we encounter while traveling in trains.

Beautiful place.

There's nothing much to mention about this place.... it's something that is to be explored and seen.

Worth visiting.

Tickets can be booked online through the website (some extra fee is there) and also through the counter.

There's a nice food place inside, drinking water facility, washrooms, snacks/beverages counter sort of.

P.S. entry ticket of 50rs is just for entry, to ride on the joy train a separate ticket costing 20rs is required.

The museum is spread over 11 acres of land, and is divided into two parts: an indoor section and an outdoor section. The indoor section houses exhibits on the history of Indian Railways, from its early days in the 1850s to the present day. There are also exhibits on the different types of locomotives and carriages that have been used in India over the years, as well as on the various railway technologies that have been developed.

The outdoor section of the museum is where you can see the locomotives and carriages up close. There are a variety of different locomotives on display, including steam, diesel, and electric locomotives. There are also a variety of different carriages on display, including passenger carriages, mail carriages, and even a royal carriage.

Great place for kids and families. There is Joy train available and Cafeteria.

The experience can be further improved by providing interactive toy/small trains for kids.

Note - the rail museum at Mysuru is also good.

Fun hang out for kids especially the joy ride for which I suggest one should reach 15 minutes earlier than the scheduled time. Seat is available on first come first serve basis. Cafe offering an elaborate menu is functional within the premises of the museum. Veg fare served there seemed good.

A place that is not really maintained well! But the actual train sets on display will bring back the great Indian Railway nostalgia. However the rail ministry has done a hopeless job in not being able to donl so much more with what they already have!!! Simple lethargy nothing else!
