Another must visit places on the visit to Dalhousie.
Also visit their souvenir store and buy some products to support the forests of India.
One can drive up there from Lakkadmandi (2.8kms) if u are confident to drive single laned off-road.

Mainly it's dense #Cedar (Deodar) and #Fir jungle, when you go through it you will get the smell of Deodar wood #resins. One of my good experiences at #Lakkadmandi range under #Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary. If you are lucky, sometime you can have a good sighting of wild animals on the way across the jungle. I had a rear experience of #leopard and #bear sighting in a single day while travelling at late night. Felt amazing to ream inside the jungle. Kindly do not pollute the place by throwing #plastics anywhere. Save the environment... save our Mother Nature.

A nice and quiet place to go hiking. Starting from Lakkad Mandi, there is a 3km mud road surrounded by deodar trees, ending at Forest Rest House Kalatop.

The main attraction of this place is the hiking experience. It may not be worth visiting if you plan to take a car till FRH Kalatop because there is not much to see on the way or at the destination. If you are the kind of traveller who expect to get a view or see something at the destination, this place may disappoint you. But if you are someone who travel for experiencing, then this place is for you.

We had visited here in last week of December, 2022, and were lucky to experience our first ever snowfall (though a very slight one) from here.

There is bus service from Khajjiar at around 10-10.30am till Lakkad Mandi, and from there you can hike 3km till FRH Kalatop and then return.

What can I say...this place is breathtaking! Amazing views and the forest itself is well maintained and clean.

You will be at cloud level and can see the clouds rolling in which is heavenly!

Overall beautiful place and you will be able to see a few animals of you are lucky.

Will surely visit again!

This forest is absolutely stunning with natural beauty, greenery, trees, fresh air and sound of birds. It's a beautiful place where people can proceed their journey to Khajjiar, Jot and Dainkund Peak or they can start trekking from the entry of Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary. Trekking is moderate but provides unreal views. Since this area is a wildlife sanctuary there is a threat of bears as well. Although it's a tourist area and safe in daylight. But people should be cautious that they are not alone(animals live here too)here and don't walk alone.

Good place to visit. Kalatop is near to Lakkadmandi in HP also called as snow point. This is a small place but good for time pass. There is a rope based adventure game also but we did not prefer this. On the day of our visit (22.1.21), luckily heavy snow fall occurred. It was the nice moment for me and my family. Earlier we had not seen falling ice. The way to Khajjiar is from Kalatop. As we proceeded for Khajjiar, our vehicle got struck in middle of Kalatop to Khajjiar due to heavy snow fall and we had to returned back on foot to hotel leaving our vehicle there. However, we enjoyed a lot with the climate.

Absolutely loved going here in June. The forest is absolutely beautiful. Most beautiful forest I've ever been to! There are food areas in it from where you can eat Himachal food. It was also very cold in some areas and blood also froze a little bit. I would recommend bringing a jacket with you. View was wonderful. Also Lootera movie was shot here. Overall, Loved it!

It was hail storm on our way to kalatop and the weather was really cold although the month was June and it supposed to be summer. The view from the top is so satisfying and you can click some nice shots of bakrota hills.

This sanctuary area with its well laid out trekking jungle trails both at Kalatop and Khajjiar is a tourist paradise. Dense Deodar and Fir forests are places of solitude very close to Dalhousie town. Visitors should look for pheasants and Serow in these forests but should be beware of black bear which can be encountered often in the area.

Hiking is the best way to appreciate the beauty of the flora and fauna. However, most tourists use taxis and buses to traverse this 43 km motor-able route to Chamba through Khajjiar. Khajjiar is officially proclaimed the mini-Switzerland of India. It is 24 km from the GPO. Daily return bus trips are available from the bus stand by Himachal Tourism.

The best period for visiting the sanctuary are March-May, and from September to November, when the weather is favorable.

Kalatop Khajjiar Sanctuary is a 30.69 km² animal  sanctuary at Kalatop and khajjiar  in the chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. The sanctuary area is well laid out for trekking trails both at Kalatop and khajjiar. There is a dense deodar and fir forest covering 19.63 km² of the sanctuary, which is about 6 km from Dalhousie.

Try to find a local guide and can go trekking at Kalatop. We went along the trail showing 12Km to Khajjiar, but after 3km we lost the way and finally completed the trail and reached road, from where we got to the entrance. So, better take a guide.

Kalatop Wildlife Conservation Area is situated at a distance of about eight kilometers from Dalhousie. There are guest houses and private camping sites for the forest corporation to stop the tourists. This forest area lies in the heart of the dense forest area. Here the tourists can also admire wild animals, but without the permission of the forest department, you can not go there. This permission can be taken from the office of the forest department located in "Lukkamandi".
