Spiritual centre in the vicinity of Bilaspur,Pendra, Mungeli, Korba district.
Mahamaya mandir epitomises the religious belief of Chhattisgarh's Shakti devotees 🔱.

The presence of pond in the premise is evident to the tittle of Ratanpur as "the City of the ponds."

Mahamaya mandir also welcomes Jyot Kalash lighting in the occasion of Navratri and lifetime Jyots.

The nearby temples are also well toured throughout the year. Temples of Lakhani Devi, Hanuman ji, Bhairav baba, Shri Ram etc are worth your time.

The Mahamaya Temple is one of the most visited places near Bilaspur. It is believed to be one of the Shaktipeeths where the right shoulder of Goddess Sati fell. The present temple is, however, a recent construction standing on the place of the ancient temple.

There is no clear information as to when the temple was built or who built it. Probably King Ratnadev had built the temple when he shifted his capital to Ratanpur. However, a shrine must have been present at the place and the King later built a temple around it.

There are 2 statues inside the Garbhagriha (inner sanctum) – one of Goddess Mahamaya in the form of Mahisasuramardini (the demon slayer) and the other is of Goddess Saraswati. The statue of Goddess Saraswati is often overlooked if you do not look at it carefully. There are some other shrines also in the temple complex.

There is a pond behind the main shrine and opposite the pond is the Kanti Deul. There are two temples and these are reconstructed on the original plan by the ASI.

Jai Ma Mahamaya !!
Ma Mahamaya temple is a very very pious and holy place situated approx 30 kilometre from Bilaspur city chhattisgarh.
It is a must visit for every person who is coming to Bilaspur city and to take blessings of Ma Mahamaya.
The temple is maintained by a trust and is very will maintained , during the time of Nav-ratri the temple is flooded with peoples / locals for Darshan and offering special pujas. People also walk whole night from Bilaspur city to Ratanpur in respect of mother and to offer puja in the temple.
I am attaching some of my photos with my friend Mr Ramkumar Rathore - we have walked whole night during the Sharad Nav- Ratri and reached Ratanpur Ma Mahamaya Temple to offer our puja.
With Huge Respect - Jai Ma Mahamaya.

Step into the enchanting world of Shri Mahamaya Devi Mandir, Ratanpur, one of the most revered temples in southeast India. Nestled amidst lush green hills and adorned with over 150 ponds, this historical town has captivated the hearts of devotees, historians, and archaeologists for decades. Twice a year, during Navrataras, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims flock to witness the awe-inspiring dual-statue of Mahamaya Devi.

Located 25 km from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, on the Bilaspur-Ambikapur state highway, Ratanpur unveils a tapestry of history spanning nearly a millennium. Once the capital of the Kalchuri kings, the town boasts remnants of ancillary temples, domes, palaces, and forts, sharing tales of its glorious past.

Built in the Nagar school of architecture around the 12th century AD, the temple is encircled by an 18-inch thick boundary wall supported by sixteen stone columns. Statues and motifs from earlier centuries, including those from Jain temples, adorn the temple, narrating a rich cultural history. The main temple complex features smaller statues of Mahakali, Bhadrakali, Surya Dev, Lord Vishnu, Lord Hanuman, Bhairav, and Lord Shiva.

Legend has it that Kalinga king Ratna Dev performed the first puja and abhishek of Devi in 1050 AD when he shifted his capital to Ratnapur. The strategic significance of the town led Ratna Dev and his heirs to establish Ratnapur as their capital, leaving behind palaces, forts, and temples that still echo the grandeur of the bygone era.

At the heart of the main temple campus, the dual statues of Mahamaya, known as Mahishasur Mardini and Goddess Saraswati, stand in splendor. Devotees from across the globe gather during Navratras to catch a glimpse of the celebrated Devi and participate in rituals. Surrounding the main temple, grand halls host Jyoti Kalashas, kept "alive" for the nine days of Navratras, fulfilling devotees' wishes through proper fasting, puja, and contributions to the Akhand Jyoti Kalashas.

Explore other temples of historical and archaeological significance around the main temple, such as the Mahamrityunjaya Panchmukhee Shiv Mandir and Kanthi Dewal. The Panchmukhee Shiv Mandir, believed to be the origin of the Mahamaya statue, holds the power to grant wishes when devotees perform proper puja and make offerings. The octagonal Kanthi Dewal temple, showcasing a blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture, features sculptures dating from the 9th to 12th century. Inside, a Shiv Lingam, the source of Divine Energy, invites devotees to seek mental and physical strength through proper puja-archana.

An interesting note is that the Kanthi Dewal temple underwent recent reconstitution by the Department of Archaeological Survey of India, preserving its historical shape over a five-year span. Immerse yourself in the sacred and historical allure of Shri Mahamaya Devi Mandir and the town of Ratanpur, where each corner echoes with the whispers of a millennium-old tale.

Built in the 12th-13th century, this temple is dedicated to Goddess Mahamaya. [2] It was built during the Kalachuri rule of Ratnapur . It is said that it is situated at the place where King Ratnadeva had darshan of Goddess Kali .

Originally the temple was for three goddesses namely Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati. Later, Mahakali left the old temple. And later again a new (present) temple was built by Raja Bahar Sai which was for Goddess Mahalakshmi and Goddess Mahasaraswati. This temple was built in Vikram Samvat 1552 (1492 AD). [4] There are ponds near the temple. There are also temples of Shiva and Hanuman within the complex . Traditionally Mahamaya is the family deity of Ratanpur state. The temple has been renovated by the Architecture Department. Mahamaya Temple is 25 km from District Headquarters Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. Located in far Ratanpur.

The Mahamaya temple is built in Nagara style architecture facing north next to a huge water tank . [5] One can see the scores of supporting temples, domes, palaces and forts that once housed the temples and the royal houses of the Ratanpur kingdom.

Within the complex, there is also the temple of Kantideval, which is the oldest of the group and is said to have been built in 1039 by an ascetic named Santosh Giri, [7] and later expanded by the Kalachuri king Prithvideva II in the 15th century. to be done. It has four gates and they have beautiful carvings. It has also been restored by the Archaeological Department of India . The sanctum and the pavilion are fortified with an attractive courtyard, built during the Maratha period in the late 18th century.

A few kilometers away are the remains of the ancient 11th century old Kadaidol Shiva temple, situated on a hilltop in a ruined fort, which was built by the Kalachuri rulers, who were followers of Shiva and Shakti. The Archeology Department is also planning to renovate this temple.

People crowd the temple during the Navratri festival, when Jyotiklash is lit to appease the Mother Goddess.

The patron of the temple is considered to be Kalbhairav , whose temple is situated on the highway on the same way as the temple. It is a popular belief that pilgrims visiting the Mahamaya temple also need to visit the temple of Kalabhairava to complete their pilgrimage.

Shri Mahamaya Devi Temple is managed by a trust, consisting of 21 eminent trustees, who are responsible for the well-being of the temple, its architecture, day-to-day management, finance and administration. This Siddha Shakti Peeth Shri Mahamaya Devi Temple Trust is a non-profit organization, registered with the Registrar of Firms and Societies. The Trust also carries out various social activities for the betterment of poor and handicapped units of the society.

Thakur Balram Singh remained the Chairman of the Trust since its inception on 5 March 1982 and thus served the Shri Mahamaya Devi Temple for 37 years and 54 days. Currently, Ashish Singh Thakur has been elected and serves as the Chairman of the Trust.
