Bhumipurush Temple

This is local small temple... Having small open place.... Temple is not/can not be constructed .. so the shrine(lingam) is open in air...

Bhumipurush temple is located in Durgabhat, Ponda-Goa. Holy place. Away from noise. Cool place. Since the God Bhumipurush is related to Bhumi, that is land or earth it is under sky, on open place. It is in form of 'Linga'. It is said that, in the beginning, only three stones were there and people were worshiping those stones as God. Later somewhere in 1980 'Ling' is established by devasthan committee. On every monday Bhajan seva is performed by locals in temple premises, agrashala. Every house in row gets chance to do sevas, one by one, on every mondays, as per there turn. They call as "Lawanicho Somar". Shetye, Saraf and Shet-Kolvekar families from Ponda have first rights to do various rituals in Bhumipurush temple.
Vasant Puja, Gudi Padawa and annual day of Ling pratisthapana are the main and big functions of this temple. This temple is coming under Shree Vithoba Temple which is at Upper bazar-Ponda, just on walkable distance of 5 minutes. People worship Lord Bhumipurush whole heartedly as they believe in his blessings.
