Hello All Lovers of Goa and Lovers for Travel and Hungry for knowledge,
The Arvalem Caves are popularly known as ''Pandava Caves''. According to the history, the five Pandavas of the epic Mahabharata sought refuge in these caves during their exile. The Arvalem Caves are very much patterned in the Buddhist cave style. The architecture of the caves is simple yet appealing. The walls are plain with no paintings on them. The rock structure has been cut into laterite stone, with the sanctuary at the northern end and the vihara at the southern end. The mysterious look of the caves has been attracting the tourists over long years. The presence of the famous Rudreshwar temple and a waterfall in its vicinity, makes this place a must visit in Goa.
There are five compartments in the cave complex and the middle compartment enshrines the 'linga' held in great reverence by devotees. The shafts of the four crafted lingas are very similar to those that can be found in Elephanta, Ajanta and Ellora caves in Maharashtra. The Shivalinga in the second cave is engraved with an inscription written in Sanskrit and Brahmi characters of the 7th century. The Shivalinga and the inscription are assigned to the period of the Bhoja King Kapalivarman. The complex consists of two major caves and a residential chamber.
Nearby tourist spots are Arvalem Water Falls (1.3 kms) and St. John of The Cross, Sanquelim(2.2 kms).
It is opencaves so you can visit any time. Preferably day time to get full view of inside shivlinga at the caves.
Do visit the caves to get the aura of the PANDAVA KAAL caves...

Visit for some interesting rock architecture and fun time climbing atop. P.S make sure to carry water and sunscreen and visit the Harvelem Falls a couple of meters away.

Arvalem caves are popularly known as Pandav caves as pandavs took shelter here during their exile. They are located near sanquelim village, around 1.3 kms from arvalem falls. Caves are simple yet very appealing. The rudreshwar temple and waterfall lying in close proximity make the caves very popular among tourists.

Not a place just to hangout, it's more about history. Very small place, few chambers that can be seen, cannot get inside tha caves, as gates are locked. One can witness Shiv Linga inside the caves chambers, really dark inside.
This place is near to hHarvalem waterfall, both should be covered together on your travel list, if planned.

Apart from the admirable beaches and waterfalls, Goa is also one of the most sought after destinations for heritage architectures. Goa is an ancient state and so is the architecture found here. A beautiful example of the historical monuments present in Goa is the Arvalem Caves or the “Pandava Caves”. Located in the Bicholim town of North Goa, these caves are ancient rock cut caves that give us a chance to steep into the mythological tales. The origin of these caves dates back to the 6th century

Pandavas date back to one of the greatest epic Mahabharata, which is not mythology but history of India and places like these where pandavas (5 brothers) built caves and temples across India is a proof of the same. This place Lies a few kms away from sanquelim on the way to harvalem falls.
