Raipur Jomidari Bari

Raipur Jomidarbari had one of the famous and ancient families in earlier Bengal. The jamindar of Singha Family was the one who gave Vubandanga to Debendranath Tagore which later transformed to Todays Shantiniketan ❣

However, This Singha Residency is now the edge of annihilation. Though the archeological Survey of India intended to take back this property, locals objected and keep it in their custody! They earn some profit by letting it as a shooting spot but no necessary arrangement is done to restore it.

Don't know but after 5-10 years there might be no sign of this grand Mansion!

This place is extremely close to Shantiniketan and has probably been made popular due to a number of movies making this place as a part of their plot. Although fast deteriorating into ruins, I personally, felt connected as soon as entered this place. The ceilings are all gone however that it something which is due to someone choosing to sell off the wooden structures supporting the ceiling. The place has its own charm though and does connect with you to narrate its own story about people who once inhibited this place, the gem of a workmanship and what royalty used to look like few centuries back. There is a temple nearby which is maintained however people owning this place probably lack the foresight of tuning this place into a commercial property to not just preserve the place but also provide people an experience of staying at Rajbari. I till definitely recommend my fellow travellers to plan for an hour, during the day, it’s worth it!

A must visit place if you are in Bolpur, Santiniketan. The ruins of the place give us a reminder of the grandeur of the past.

Such a step back in time. Fascinating place to see and imagine the grandeur it must have seen in its heyday. Also called den of cobras!

The place is marvellous. The name and place suits each other. The building are broken and shades of colors on the building will give u goosebumps on your body. The buildings are so much old that the bricks are turning into soil also staircase are completely broken.

A run down old jomidar bari... not well maintained... but definitely gives you the creeps... More or less remains empty... Movie shoots have taken place... nothing much to see to be honest...

Raipur jamidari bari is situated near Bolpur, at the district of Birbhum. This was the house of famous Sinha family. Famous person Lord Satyendra Prasanna Sinha belonged to this clan. Lord Sinha Road in Kolkata is named after him. Currently this house has received complete destruction. This house has witnessed the shooting of many famous movies.
The house of famous editor Sajani Kanta Das (Shanibarer Chithi) is also located here.

In 1863, Debendranath Tagore took on permanent lease 20 acres (81,000 m2) of land, with two chhatim trees, at a yearly payment of Rs. 5, from Bhuban Mohan Sinha, the talukdar of Raipur. He built a guest house and named it Santiniketan (the abode of peace). Gradually, the whole area came to be known as Santiniketan.

Satyendra Prasanno Sinha, a subsequent talukdar of Raipur, was elevated to the peerage as Baron Sinha, of Raipur, in 1919, becoming the first Indian member of the British House of Lords.

This is an amazing place to explore for adventure. But Not safe place for children. The building can collapse anytime due to lack of maintenance. But great place with haunted house feeling.

Historical place.. U can visit from shantiniketan easily.. This Palace needs to be maintained... There is not even a single board stating its significance or history

If you are going to Bolpur Santiniketan and have one hour time in your hand, you should visit this place. This will surely make you proud about past glory of Bengal and also will feel sorry at the same time, how careless we are regarding preservation of our heritage. It's just 10 km away from Sonajhuri. After lunch in any restaurant at sonajhuri start for this palace. Road is very good, directions available in Google map. You will definitely have a different experience. Beautiful architecture. Numbers of Bengali horror?? film shooting were done here. Spent half an hour and return. Raise a demand to authorities for It's conservation please 🙏.

An awesome journey to this place. Surely a historical place and also had history with Santiniketan. Many shoots had done here. Very old building and youbcan smell the history and the old Jamindar Charm here. Its ok to carry light because some places are too dark. The upper portion is too beautiful but be car3ful with the stairs. Also there is a Temple where still prayers does. Overall its a must see destination of Raipur if you are visiting Santiniketan or Sonajhuri.

Wow.. What a place. Basically a haunted place. I must say you should visit this place if you are going to Shantiniketan.
What a thrilling place is this. Old Rajbari will give you the feel of horror movies. And you can also get some horrific feel sometimes.
A must visit for thrill lovers.

P.S: This place is prohibited to visit after 5:00 P.M. Because it gets completely dark and haunted.

Well it's definitely worth a visit if you are in to vintage vibe with some history.
