Lively pictures, pictorial diagrams, vivid descriptions and historical documents involving Rabindranath Tagore and Santiniketan are presented in this museum.

If someone studies every picture and description in detail, it takes more than 2 hours to cover the entire museum.

Ticket price = 30/-

It opens at 9am in the morning and stays open till 5pm in the evening. It's just at the opposite of the railway station. One can plan visiting this museum before catching the return train from the Bolpur Railway Station.

On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore, Ministry of Railways decided to pay its tribute to the great poet and philosopher. Foundation stone of the museum was laid in October, 2010 just outside Bolpur station and it was opened for public viewing in August, 2012. It was named after the poet’s Nobel Prize winning collection of poems GITANJALI which also completed its 100 year in 2010.

Place of historic interest associated with Kaviguru. Main attraction of the place is the train aka saloon coach in which poet travelled last. There are numerous valuable pictures kept inside. Pictures are appearing chronologically which is adding value of this place. Closed on Wednesday Day. Ticket ₹10

The meusium is just opposite of Bolpur Station. It is rail meusium but the meusium is all about Rabindranath Tagore and his family and about Brahmo Samaj.
Visitors can get clear idea regarding Brahmo Samaj Rabindranath and his family by visiting in this meusium. The place is neat and clean. The meusium is in a two storied building. Visitors of Shantiniketan rarely visit there. But if you visit there you will definitely be delighted. It takes 2 to 2.30 hrs if you want to read and see thoroughly. There is no entry fees is there.

Though not much covered/explained by any tourist, but this museum is a great place to visit during your Bolpur trip.
It is greatly maintained by the railway department. This place is easily seen beside platform No.1 of Bolpur station.
The entry fee is Rs30 per person and photography is not allowed inside te hall.

The museum is a 2 storyed building and highlighted the entire life journey of Rabindra Nath Tagore's acheivements. You may get to know about different people, who were a part of this journey.
Another facsinating thing is that you may see so many pictures of the earlier image of some places of Shantinikentan, chaatimtala and other places in the picture gallery. And after minutes/hours you will be visiting those places in person during your trip.

Not only the framed pictures but the teracotta designs and use of chataai for decorating some pictures is a great idea to highlight the essence of Shantiniketan.
You can see the actual used items by Rabindranath Tagore like-the train coach in which he made his last journey, chair and tables etc.
This place is not at all crowded. I visited there this February (2022) and we were only 4 people only to visit this place during that time.
Do visit this place and support railway's effort while visiting Bolpur.

I visited this museum on 19/11/23 with my family members. All of my family members are highly pleased to see every details of Tagor. I may suggest every person interested on Tagore must spare a part of their valuable time while visiting Santiniketan. Moreover, I am expressing my heartiest thanks to the Railways for this inexpressible creation on Tagore.

The rail museum remains open for visitors from 9 am to 1 pm and from 2.30 pm to 5 pm. There is no entry fee for the visitors. The ground floor of the museum houses the railway saloon car in which an ailing Tagore undertook his last train journey from Bolpur station to Kolkata in July, 1941. This museum is amazing. Its just opposite of the Bolpur station. There are so many pictures and documents of Kabiguru, his family, people associated with him, and earlier Shantiniketan. And on the first floor, there is a boggy of a vintage salon car.. Which I found the most amazing one. There is no entry fee and its closed on Wednesday.
