Katra Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra Railway station. Look like as a Airport facilities✈ Does it look like india? Yes it is india my dear. Could not believe once to my eyes. So beautiful, neat and clean, hugh platform with nice lighting and all neat and clean facilities like washrooms, restaurant, wating room etc. While reaching, we could not notice it properly as it was day and we ere in hurry to start our journey for Mata Vaishno Devi Darshan. While returing, we had night train and lot of time to explore the beautiful surrounding.

The station looks more like an Airport.. Very well built and maintained, any signs of dirtiness is primarily because of the passengers. Else the pace is WoW fully apt when you step in the holy city of Katra. Well done Indian Railways.. you do us all proud..

Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station (station code: SVDK) is a train station on the Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link in the Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It belongs to the Firozpur Division of Northern Railway zone in Jammu and Kashmir. It serves Katra town and the Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Temple

In 1898, Maharana Rana Prathap Singh first explored to connect Jammu with Srinagar. But due to non-co ordination and other reasons, it stopped.[citation needed]

In April 2005, the Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link was completed up to Udhampur Railway Station from Jammu side and up to Banihal Railway Station from Srinagar side. Pirpanjal railway tunnel was completed and testing was being conducted in 2012. The rail link was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 4 July 2014 at 10:00 A.M. This means that Katra is currently the northern terminus of the southern section of the Jammu–Baramulla line as well as the northernmost place accessible on the contiguous network of Indian Railways[1][2][3][4]

A 1 megawatt solar power plant was commissioned at the station in March 2015.[5
The ground floor of Katra railway station has escalators, lifts, current reservation, second class booking, train enquiry section, pilgrim guide, tourist assistance, VIP lounge, a fully air-conditioned hotel with a shopping lounge, multi-cuisine restaurant, cloak room, waiting hall, a book stall, tea stall, toilet blocks, and catering area. The first floor accommodates eight retiring rooms and a cafeteria.[6] A huge parking place also constructed to accommodate cars and passenger buses.

Being a modern railway station. Katra Railway station is equipped with modern facilities

Katra or Katra Vaishno Devi, as it is popularly known, is a small town in Reasi district in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India, situated in the foothills of the Trikuta Mountains, where the holy shrine of Vaishno Devi is located. It is located 42 km from the city of Jammu.

Katra serves as the base camp for pilgrims who visit Vaishno Devi. It has a thriving tourism industry that offers plenty of hotels, guest houses, restaurants, dhabas, fast-food joints that fit all kinds of budgets. Free accommodation is provided by some registered trusts in the form of "Sarais" for the poor. The number of pilgrims who visit the shrine every year has increased from 1.4 million in 1986 to 8.2 million in 2009. Over the years, a lot has changed, but main attractions include the "bazaar" (market) for buying souvenirs, dryfruits, woolen garments, hosiery, leather jackets, etc. To reach Vaishno Devi, the pilgrims have to register at Katra before starting the trek. By registering, the pilgrims get accident insurance up to 100,000 INR while on the trek of 14 km. There is another trek of 2.5 km from Vaishno Devi temple for Baba Bhaironnath. Electric Vehicles and helicopter services are available for pilgrims. A new ropeway system as just been inaugurated from the Vaishno Devi Bhawan to the Bhairon Baba Mandir, reducing the journey to time to just 3 minutes. The ropeway can carry 800 people every hour.
The town has been connected by roads and state highways for a long time but recently it has also been connected by Indian Railways. Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Railway Link connects the Katra railway station of Northern Railways to the rest of Indian railways network. It was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi on 4 July 2014.[
