Kandivali, formerly Khandolee, is a railway station on the Western line of the Mumbai Suburban Railway network. It serves the Kandivli neighbourhood of Mumbai, India. All slow local trains temporarily halt between Kandivali and Borivali for a few seconds for signaling purposes, which commuters call an imaginary station named Thambevali.
Kandivali is a suburb in the north of Mumbai, Maharashtra, India and has a large Gujarati, Marathi, Koli population followed by others. British records highlight a fact which is different from what is suggested in the rest of the article. The area names that ends with "vali" were the actual valleys to the small hills surrounding the area, and that's how we have Kandolee Valley to Kandivali.
In the 16th century, Kandivali consisted of a number of villages including Kandivali [is also known as Kandol] BunderPakhadi koliwada, and Charkop. The other old settlements in Kandivali were villages occupied by the local community, East Indian Community, Bhandaris and Koli - who are recognized as the original native inhabitants of Mumbai, these communities are still living in Kandivali. Artifacts found near Kandivali indicate that the region was inhabited in the Stone Age.

The Kandivali railway station was built more than 100 years ago in 1907, then known as Khandolee. The station derived its name from the East Indian village of Condolim. Earth and stones from Paran, a hillock east of the Kandivali railway station were quarried to reclaim the Bombay Backbay. On this account a railway line was opened, a workshop erected and a number of dwelling houses were constructed for officers and workmen numbering thousands. The area around Western Urban road between Malad and Kandivali had numerous stone quarries and was once famous for Malad Stone. Many heritage buildings in Mumbai were constructed with Malad stone between 1860 and 1930, most notable among them are David Sassoon library, Bombay House and the Western Railway building at Churchgate.

During the plagues of 1900s, the Fonseca's from Bandra migrated to Kandivali. They initially settled down to the east of Kandivali at Akurli and then moved to the west at Poisar. This is where they thrived and a few families still reside to this day. All the three major communities have their shrines in Poisar.
Platform 1 caters mostly to Borivali, Bhayandar, Vasai Road, Nalla Sopara and Virar bound slow trains. Platform 2 caters to Andheri, Bandra, Dadar and Churchgate bound slow and semi fast trains. Platform 3 is very less used and caters to Bhayandar bound slow trains. Platform 4 is also very less used and mostly caters to Churchgate bound semi fast trains and Andheri bound slow trains. It is also used by a Bhayandar bound fast train which has a halt at Kandivali.

This is one place , I would love to visit everyday.

Just as you enter the station, A gush of cold air hits your face. Beautiful Apsaras are standing, sprinkling aromatic rose water on the passengers. Moving further more Apsaras are waiting with welcome drink.

There is a Lounge where , passengers can rest in cool environment, while they wait for their train to arrive.

The outbound passengers, have their luggage carried outside to a fleet of air conditioned limos, waiting to take them to their destinations.

It was a memorable experience. No place is better than Kandivali Station. Worth a visit.

Hub place to get down if you don't want to go to borivali ptf 1 or 2 and be aware of ticket checker
Mainly in mid you'll always find a TC.

Exactly when you go outside you'll find a khaogalli from virar side.
There idli vada is famous and awesome should try if you are at kandivali west.
The price is also cheap and best you'll get in just 20₹
Sugarcane juice also and other fruits
