The temple is a corridor of 84 temples in total. The old building is 287 years old and very well maintained. Very spacious and crowded every day, but they're managing it nicely by having sitting arrangements in between as well. We went on a Friday, and found a good number of people, but we didn't have to wait continuously in queue as it was moving which is so important in a large temple like this. Would recommend going on a weekday if possible.

Very nice place. Crowd properly maintained by Temple Administration even though the crowd is almost double than Omkareshwar. Campus is also clean. Corridor is too good to see at night before 9:30pm as it closes after that. Day also one can take 100s of photos.😀

Saturday to Monday is generally peak time of crowd. If planning on these days, visit early morning. Don't forget to visit all other temples inside Mahakal Premises especially Sakshi Gopal Ji🙏💐

The idol of Mahakaleshwar is known to be dakshinamurthi, which means that it is facing the south. This is a unique feature, upheld by the tantric shivnetra tradition to be found only in Mahakaleshwar among the 12 Jyotirlingas.

The temple is situated on the side of the holy river Shipra. The presiding deity, Shiva in the lingam form is believed to be Swayambhu, deriving currents of power (Shakti) from within itself as against the other images and lingams that are ritually established and invested with mantra-shakti.

The shrine is revered as one of the 18 Maha Shakti Peetham.
Shakti Peethas are shrines that are believed to have enshrined with the presence of Shakti due to the falling of body parts of the corpse of Sati Devi, when Shiva carried it. Each of the 51 Shakti Peethas has shrines for Shakti and Kalabhairava. The Upper Lip of Sati Devi is said to have fallen here and the Shakti is called as Mahakali.

Visiting old temples and forts I always wondered if we can still create structures with stunning art on the walls. Yes we can. The renovation of the temple is mesmerizing if not for religious reasons the temple is worth a visit for art it has on display. To me the renovation using modern lights looked anachronistic giving sci-fi movie feel

Jai Mahakal !!!!
Jai Bholenath!!!!
One of the 12 Jyotirlinga in India, and the amazing experience it gives you. Especially the bhashm aarti, pls book the ticket for Bhashm aarti in advance.
The stunning and magnificent architecture of the entire Mahakaal corridor is mesmerizing, please visit the corridor in the evening to see the architecture Marvel with lighting.

Slightly off the topic, but if you're coming to Ujjain from a far away place, please plan accordingly to visit other nearby Jyotirlinga also.
You can plan visit to Shirdi & Omkareshwar also.

It was a wonderful experience, luckily when we went it wasn't much crowded as well, maybe due to night time, had really good darshan there. Also the corridor was looking really beautiful during night time with all the lights, you can feel the serenity there.

Absolutely divine experience. The temple premises are renovated and nicely managed. Mahakal darshan was easy, clear and effortless.
The recent renovations at Ujjain are mind boggling. The "Corridor" is simply marvellously superb, one must spend enough time to enjoy the latest creation...

Every time I get darshan of mahakal m always blessed, but the new addition of the corridor has become a place for learning all about lord Shiva through arts, cravings, sculpture, and many more, where crowds also get engaged it . Good for everyone.

It was a wonderful experience to visit the temple and corridor. I like the crowd over there and the different temples and its design and sculptures. There are many big sculptures in the corridor which were amazing to watch at night. I recommend visiting this around 6'o clock in the evening. First visit the temples and then head towards the corridor.

I visited on mid December and I can say that that was good time not so much crowd but because this is a very famous obviously you will find some 100's of people eveytime over there.

I took the VIP pass for Darshan and if you are interested in bhasm Aarti then you can buy in advance ticket for that one as well otherwise if you wanted to take offline ticket then you will have to wait for 3 hours and again you have to be in queue for 4 hours from 12 o'clock in the night to 4 o'clock morning bhasm Aarti.

I roam around every Mandir in the Mahakaleshwar compound including newly developed Mahakaleshwar Corridor. Everything is looks well I would say the construction is still going on may be after 1 hour one and half year it will be stunning.

Temple is not so far from railway station it is hardly 2 km from railway stations if you are coming to Ujjain railway station from there you will just take any e rickshaw you get there within 5 minutes.

If you wanted to make two 2 day of trip then it will be good because you can visit one day entire Ujjain and secondary you can try for the Omkareshwar that is 140 km from Ujjain. If you are going to Mahakaleshwar, you can visit the another Jyotirlinga which is in Omkareshwar that I could suggest everyone.

Overall you must visit and I feel very peace inside after going to the baba mahakaleshwar.

Jai Mahakal ...
This place situated on the bank of Narmada river...
You can find this place oftenly crowded..
But the temple management is good...

I found that the local shop keepers are also very helpful they will not loot you..

River bank should be more clean..

Must visit after the renovation of the surroundings... especially at night...day visit is a bit confusing...no boards displayed about the entrance or optional 250 Rs faster lane...or premium rates for Pooja by the shivling ....the food around the temple in Ujjain is much better than the overhyped Indore food... avoid weekends though

Blessed to visit the temple. Wonderful experience.
Security is not upto the mark. Visited temple 3 times in two days, of which two times they allowed people to carry mobile phone and once they harnessed devotees to submit the mobile mandatory for which there was also long queue. If there are rules then it has to be same for all the time and for all people. Management is better at other Jyotirlinga temples.
