This is a must see house if you are visiting Goa for the first time. Orignally owned by an advocate, the house tells a nice story of how Goa was during the Portuguese time. The place showcases old tools and paraphernalia that gives a first hand look of the past.

Tour starts with a nice summary (narrated by the guide) then followed by recorded playback at each stop points.

The smartest way to show a lifestyle or culture of a person. It's a very good example to show how the Portuguese officials lived in Goa.
The house belongs to Casa Araujo Alvares and all the artefacts have been preserved in a very good condition. Though the house may be old, they have incorporated the smart way of storytelling through speakers as we land on that part of the exhibit. A much better experience than reading through the exhibits. The place is unique and fun to spend time in there. The narration is quite informative not just about the artefacts but also speaks a lot about the culture and society during that time. I would say it's worth the visit.

Lovely old. Portuguese mansion. An eminent lawyer who lived a lavish life and his house hosts things of wonderful taste. Things from all over the world. Note able among these are a kerosene refrigerator, à safe room, old furniture, à massive dining room that will give you goose bumps. Well worth the 100 rupees entry fee. This Museum apart from the guide gives you a light and sound tour of this massive mansion

Loutolim is home to a number of impressive Portuguese mansions but just one, Casa Araujo Alvares, opposite Ancestral Goa, is officially open to the public. You can tour the interior of the 250-year-old house on an informative automated half-hour ‘sound-and-light show’ that illuminates rooms and furnishings to accompanying commentary.

This 250 year old mansion belongs to the Alvares family and forms part of the Ancestral Goa tourist complex, set up to recreate Goan village life under Portuguese rule. It was named after owner Eufemiano Araujo Alvares, who was a prominent lawyer during the colonial period.

The mansion has been constructed around an inner courtyard and features a chapel at its center. It’s gracefully furnished with European antiques and old photos. Each room has been preserved as it was centuries ago, including the kitchen filled with traditional implements. The office of Eufemiano Araujo Alvares has an intriguing desk with secret drawers and corners, and a collection of antique smoking pipes. Other unique items are a collection of thousands of Ganesh idols, and a prayer room with hundreds of icons (pictures) of Jesus hanging in it.

The Alvares family has installed an automated “sound and light show” tour of the property (the first of its kind in Goa), which illuminates each room and provides a commentary. It gives visitors an informative insight into life of a Goan-Portuguese family in the olden days.

Must visit if you want to learn about old Portuguese way of life. You will get tickets from Big Foot. A guide will conduct your tour with an audio recording. Lots of things to observe, Old Hat stand, Palki, old smoke pipes, kitchen utensils, rum caskets, 1000 lord Ganesha idols etc. Shooting for Singham happened here.

Portuguese era home. Really interesting to know how people in 16th century lived in Goa. Whatever ticket price but you need to pay extra rupees for Camera (digital, dslr). But its worth the price. Very nice experience.

Casa Araujo Alvares is a 18th century Portuguese mansion located in South Goa village of Loutolim. Reasonably priced, takes a visitor through various Halls and Rooms of the heritage house exhibiting the antique furniture, household items, beds, chairs, tables, linen, utensils, ceramics, casks, kitchen items, Prayer Room etc. A sound and light show as well as Sound Tour highlights and guides a visitor through the tour. One of the oldest mansions in goa belonging to a lawyer from back in the day. The house is still with the family who have maintained it very well and the curating of artifact's are spot on. I loved the mix of a physical guide with automated audio guiding folks through the mansion and also how they let you explore the mansion once the tour is completed. I have visited other mansions in goa but this one has some smart thinking behind the maintenance and guide system. Kudos to the team!!
