Highly recommend! Such an interesting stop near to Rani Ki Vav. Our guide was so passionate about this craft which has been kept alive by his family for generations. Went with two people who usually struggle with museums and they both found it fascinating!!

You must add this place to your itinerary if you happen to visit Rani Ki Vav.
They charge an entry fee of Rs. 10 and photography is strictly prohibited inside the building. A Guide will take you through the entire museum and explain about all the aspects.
We get a first hand experience and knowledge of how the fabric is made and its intricacies.

Wonderful visit to this museum/ workshop. Our guide, one of the partners, gave us an excellent explanation of ikat weaving , which is very intricate. The samples on display from around the world, as well as the sarees made here were a great opportunity to see single and double ikat close up and to appreciate its art form

Centuries old hand made sarees popularly known as Patan Patola, this place explains how it is made, it takes 6 months to make one Patola. It’s expensive, but saree lovers must have one in their collection. Available with limited designs and they use natural colur. It passes from one generation to the next generation.

It is a revelation. They charge Rs 10 and give you a small tour of how the Patola sarees are made. Astonishing... However, the cheapest saree start from 22k onwards. There is also a paper cutting craft where you can see the artist working and even buy his work.
One can go even if you don't buy anything.

Patolas are very expensive woven silk saris worn only by rich people (the price starts with Rs 150,000/-). The common people can’t afford these saris. The secret of patola weaving is closely guarded and only three families of Salvi caste know the art.

This art of patola weaving is 850 years old and is dying and only handful of family members know the techniques. It takes 6 months to make one patola and owning a patola is considered a social status.

Usually, the dyeing of the fabric is done after the weaving but for Patola, the threads are dyed first as per the design and then the fabric is woven. In this museum, the Salvi family exhibits how the Patola silk is made in action on real hand loom.

This Salvi family is involved in Patola making since 35 generations. They have been awarded many awards from the government for keeping this art alive. This family is specialized on double-ikat weaving.

In the Patola house, many fabrics from different parts of the world are displayed which are single-ikat weaving. We can clearly see the difference in quality of the Patola weaved by this family as compared to the other patolas weaved by other countries.

Textile wonder...generally the designs are embossed on the cloth before it becomes saree. Patola process creates the design thro every thread which makes the saree...amazing process

Rare Authentic Patan Patolas by known Salvi family (Patan) from generations of Salvi Wado. Known for their Handcrafted silk Patola Sarees, Duppatas, Scarf etc. Dont go if you are looking for cheap silk sarees. These are handcrafted made by traditional artists which takes average 3-4 years to produce 5mt sarees using natural food colors using china imported silk. Rest you will find cheaper synthetic color patolas but if you are looking for genuine patolas do fill your hearts and empty your pockets, pre-order natural color double igat authentic patolas, wait patiently for 3-4 years for a master piece. These Patolas survive for generations (20-30) yrs easily. This museum holds patolas manufactured dating 100 / 200 / 300 years back. Special thanks to Owner Savanbhai Salvi for such a wonderful tour.

This Museum shows first hand the ancient art of Patola weaving. It is a unique double Ikat style of weaving where the thread are dyed first as per the design and then the weaving happens. They will show you first hand a working loom. For 35 generations the Salvi family has been involved in this art. They have collected awards from work over and will show you fabrics that is more than a 200 years old. The cost of each saree or any other piece of cloth is high if you want to purchase it.

Patola's are a favourite, not to have, but to see as a technique. I have great respect for those who have kept it alive for so many generations. It certainly is a craft that needs to be preserved and the Salvi family I am sure will do their best.
