Located just a 20-minute drive from Bicholim, the Saptakoteshwar Temple is not only easily accessible by car but also steeped in history. Dating back to the twelfth century, it was once the deity of the Kadamba dynasty's Kings. After Portuguese conquest in 1540, the linga was removed during the Inquisition but later rescued by a local named Narayan Shenvi Suryarao. King Shivaji, during his 1668 expedition against the Portuguese, ordered the temple's reconstruction, as seen on a stone plaque near the entrance. The name "Saptakoteshwar" originates from seven sages praying for seven crore years near the convergence of five rivers, where Lord Shiva granted their wishes. Today, the temple hosts the grand Gokulashtami festival, drawing devotees from across India.

Historical site located in beautiful diwar island. You have to go via a narrow road to reach here. First you'll find a pond with clean water and locals also take a dive into the water at times. After you go little further you'll find the temple with a beautiful river view. Parking space is limited near temple.

History, ruins and a forgotten piece of architectural marvel
You can only imagine how this place was before the Islamic/Christian invaders destroyed it
But, the base or foundation of it, is still intact, showing the marvel of the land, some 8-10 centuries back during the Kadamba period
The temple with 7 forts or sides would've been a marvel.. bygones
But do visit it, when ur in Goa and can go to Divar Island.
It's free to cross the ferry. Do take that ferry ride on ur bike/car and go here

Beautiful, peaceful, serene. Imagine how it would have been when the actual Saptakeshwar temple was here, in all its glory

Very beautiful premises. Though there are parking inside place available but they don’t allow parking inside but tell to park in the road.

As you enter there is a beautiful “nhay” down. And then in the temple it’s pretty.. they modified every thing there.

Very old hindu temple site and pond in Divar Island. It says a lot about history of this island and how they were destroyed by Portuguese. A nice and calm location. You can walk to the Mandovi river from here.

The Saptkoteshwar temple situated in Naroa divar was demolished by Portugese but the Shiva linga was saved by people and transported across the river ie Narve. Later shivaji maharaj came to know about this & he ordered to build a new temple in Narve (Bicholim) (If you Google you will get the whole story)
If you see Goa is full of historic and cultural diversities , Sad but true most people know about Goa is beach and casino!!
The whole place itself is very calm and cool.
Must visit if u love historic places 😍❤🏝
