In the realm of Goa, where legends thrive,
A temple stands, a place where souls derive,
Goddess Kamakshi, revered and adored,
In Shiroda's village, her presence is stored.

Once in Raia, where the temple first stood,
The Portuguese regime, with destruction, pursued.
To save the idol from their ruthless hand,
A potter and devotees took a daring stand.

Across the river, they stealthily tread,
With Goddess Kamakshi's idol, their hearts full of dread.
Vazem and Bharbhat witnessed her grace,
But safety eluded, they sought a new space.

In Thal, Shiroda, the temple found its home,
Where devotees gather, no longer to roam.
A grand entrance gate, majestic and tall,
Leads to the temple complex, enchanting all.

Inside, the Sabha Mandap stands serene,
A sacred hall where devotion is seen.
A water tank, tranquil and pure,
Reflects the divine, a sight to allure.

Gan, the square chowk, hosts Prasad's delight,
Where rituals unfold, in holy rite.
Lord Shiva and Vishnu, their presence embraced,
With Goddess Laxmi and Goddess Shanta Durga, graced.

On New Moon Day, Shri Laxmi Narayana's palanquin,
Parades through the temple, a sacred scene.
Chaturdashi brings Shri Rayehswar's grand display,
As devotees gather, their devotion at play.

Navratri, a festival of fervor and cheer,
Draws devotees near, from far and near.
The air fills with hymns, the spirit alive,
As Devi Kamakshi's blessings, souls strive to thrive.

In the Skanda Purana, the legend unfolds,
Of Agnimukh's son, by a demon controlled.
Hara and Hari, the protectors wise,
Guided him to Devi Kamakshi, the deity who defies.

With a bolt, she struck the demon's might,
In defeat, he retreated, vanquished from sight.
In gratitude, Agnimukh pleaded her stay,
And in Rai, she resides till this very day.

The temple is around 450 yrs old. Very pretty temple, serene atmosphere and Sri Kamakshi is rare with sword and shield. There's a small temple for betala also outside the main sanctum.

Our Kulavi. The office staff are nice. Rooms are neat and clean. Temple premises are also clean. Very serene place and gives mental peace. Amavasya festivities are very crowded and popular. Visit on weekdays and during rains to enjoy solitude.

One of the most popular temple in Goa, specially on a New moon there are alot of crowd, alot of devotees come to visit this temple and take the blessing of kamakshi devi Mata. The surrounding is good with ample space for parking and you have all the necessary things like easily available such as food as there are restaurants nearby to the temple. The architecture of the temple is great and even has a small pond. If your a tourist and don't like much crowd than go in weekdays, but if you truly want to experience the extravaganza of this place than go on new moon which occurs on a Monday, that's the time it truly comes alive.

Shree Kamakshi Saunsthan Temple at Shiroda, Goa has the main temple of Shri Kamakshi Devi who is a form of goddess Adi shakti. There is another temple where presiding deities are Shri Laxmi Narayan, Shri Rayeshwar and Shri Shanta Durga. The temple also has three main ganas of Shri Betal, Shri Kalbhairav, Shri Gram Purush. The temple precinct is very clean and the green surroundings of flora & fauna gives you a feeling of calmness. Shri Kamakshi Devi is Kuladevi (family goddess) to Kamath, Kini, Balgi, Pai family. The temple opens in morning at 5:30 am with Nirmal pooja (morning)) followed by darshan for all devotees throughout the day. Devotees wishing to offer abhishek seva need to provide all the abhishek pooja ingredients available at precincts stalls by 8am in Shri Rayeshwar temple. The afternoon pooja happens at 12pm and evening pooja is held at 8:30pm. All major festivals & events as per Hindu lunar calendar are celebrated in traditional way with lots of pomp with devotees participating in huge numbers from all across the country. Every month on Chaturdashi (previous day of New moon day) there is palki utsav of Shri Rayeshwar temple. On Amavasya (New moon day) there is a big palki utsav festival with thousands of devotees paying visit for darshan of goddess Shri Kamakshi as it is considered very auspicious. It is said having darshan for 5 consecutive months on Amavasya day is very lucky and fulfills all your wishes. On Amavasya day due to huge rush there are special queue arrangements made for darshan. Devotees get free lunch (samradhan) prasad after afternoon 12pm pooja. Other main festivals are Navaratri and MahaShivratri Jatraotsav. The temple trust managing committee have made good arrangements for lodging in temple premises for Devotees coming from outstation. Temple trust also has a good website which gives details of all events calendar and a live video streaming online darshan.
