It thrills me whenever I visit a historical place. Especially forts. Some part of the fort is underground. Still a good place visit. It's free no entry fee, bo waiting.

Devanahalli Fort The first thing I would say is that you should not rely on Google Maps to respond to this location. To reach this place, you have to go through the market, which is very congested and not comfortable to go through in a car. Also, regarding the location, it's not that attractive; here you won't be able to see many things. If you don't have any option but to go anywhere, you can come here. Also, for parking, you won't get much space. This fort only has walls and is not maintained properly. All the walls are about to break.

An underrated place in Bangalore. Most of the fort area is already encroached, and walls have vanished. What is left here is a portion of the fort for education purpose and some great memories. The government must take initiative to restore the glory of the fort and develop it as a tourist place. A great amount of conservation is needed here, and proper Guides should be available so that people know about our history. The birth place of Tipu Sultan is there next to the fort, which visitors should see.

The historic site, very close to where Tipu Sultan was born; Devanahalli Fort is truly a unique place where history and contemporary co-exist seamlessly. As you approach the fort you may think you are entering a space where you'll find an old dilapidated ruin, but as you enter the fortification you are surprised to find a bustling modern village whithin ! You can explore the village on foot (where you can find some old and modern temples and a Mazaar amongst a busy villege community) or you can walk along the fortification. A truly unique experience. Best time to visit the fort would be around the sunset.

Historical Fort near Namma Bengaluru City having significant historical story behind it!!Amazing construction of fort. The Fort is still very strong and well maintained.
This is not a huge fort, but small built by then kings od devanahalli.
While you enter inside the fort, you will notice all new buildings of latest trend. Here and there you will find some old structures still standing. There are number of temples present inside the fort. Some of them are 800 years old. One can climb the fort by steps and walk on the fort from one end to another end. It's truly amazing!!

Not much crowd. On the way or back from Nandi hills. Signboard says tippus birth place. Interesting is you will find houses within the fort. Could have been well maintained. Grass is green probably bcoz it's monsoon. You can find castle grazing. There are few temples around. Only one part is intact. Rest have fallen apart. Your can spend 1hr max.

This is the birthplace of Tippy sultan. The fort wall is very big and still strong. It is built around 15th century. There are 12 magnificent bastions in the fort wall. You can see the fort wall clearly from outside then inside. Vehicles go inside the fort. There are many temples inside the temple, especially Venugopal Swamy Temple is very beautifully

Best thing to do over a weekend just drive to the Fort and walk on the Fort, no fee, you can relax on the lawns, you can have an overall view from the Fort, located 35km North of bangalore city, if you love history then yes a must visit to see how the structure of Fort is so beautiful. Near places to visit, tippu's birth place, venugopalswamy temple, siddalingeshwara temple, across street chandramouleshwara temple, anjaneya temple as well.

Good place for a half day trip from Bengaluru city. Just off the highway, after the airport, it is visible from the highway.

The fort walls enclose the town. You can actually walk up the ramparts on the left as you enter and walk past the old Venugopalaswamy temple. The view from up there is what soldiers would have been able to see - any enemies outside, and the town houses and buildings inside.

The fort itself existed as a mud fort (16th cent.) before Hyder Ali who reinforced it with stone walls in the late 18th century. In 1791, Lord Cornwallis is said to have laid siege to the fort and took possession during the Anglo-Mysore war.

There are semi circular bastions at regular intervals where guards must have been posted with rifles (slots for these rifles can be seen even today). As you walk on, there comes a point when you can step down to the town main road. The walk down the town road is also interesting with old houses (one of them is said to have housed Dewan Purnaiah) and temples (the Nanjundeshwara, Chandramouleeswara and Venugopalaswamy temples are worth a look).

Within walking distance from the fort is a memorial with a small plaque stating that Tipu Sultan was born here in 1751. Nothing fancy, but just a small memorial recording an event in history.

The visit to the fort and nearby interesting places should take about an hour or hour and a half. You can combine this with a trip to Nandi hills or the Bhoga Nandishwara temple at the foothills or to the Nallur Heritage Grove which is about 10 kms from here.

Such a wonderful place
It was originally built in 1501 by Mallabairegowda, which remained in the hands of his descendants until the mid–eighteenth century. In 1749, the then Dalwai of Mysore, Nanjarajaiah, attacked the fort and  occupied it. Later, the fort passed into the hands of Hyder Ali  and subsequently Tipu Sultan . In 1791, Lord Cornwallis  laid siege  to the fort and took possession during the Anglo-Mysore War .

Devanahalli Fort is of immense historical importance. This is the place where Tipu Sultan fought with British soldiers after being attacked by the latter. One's mind will go back to that period during visit to that place. The scenic beauty from the fort is really unforgettable. However, it appears that this place of historical importance deserves more care from the part of the Government.

Tipu's birth place. The fort is done up so beautifully well. Can't imagine how in the 18th century era, they have managed to lift these bolsters. The fort is long and goes deep within, bordering the town for a long distance. Don't miss the spectacular view from the side mud road going parallel to the fort.

Perfect place for sight seeing. I cycled there from Jakkur, thus making a total distance of 52 kms from my place. And I must say, you'll enjoy there.

Old fort which is broken due to war. You can read that history in the sculpture as well. Beautiful lake near the fort premises.

One of the less explored places, this fort is historically very important as this was the very location where one of the greatest rulers of India, Tipu Sultan was born. This monument is calling out for attention and could have been developed much more than what it presently is. The settlement within the Fort has expanded due to lack of any government regulations and the Fort has been destroyed in many places. The Fort built using burnt bricks is still surprisingly strong and standing. The Fort wall must be at least 20feet thick and has many loopholes and morchas where the guards probably did sentry duties. There are lots of temples and old buildings inside the fort. There are also stone slabs with inscriptions which have worn out as they haven't been suitable preserved from the vagaries of nature.
This place is calm, serene and peaceful. I'm really glad we stumbled upon this place on our way back from Nandi hills. It would be good if the Archeological Survey can renovate the place and put up more boards offering information to the tourists.
