It's approx 10 kms from main road. The road leading to ashram is in excellent condition with numeroushair pin bends. This location is enjoying pin drop silence with no photography permission inside. Lots of restrictions are there for staying. But while enjoying the solitude of nature, this is the perfect place.

I would like to begin the write up on Advaita Ashram Mayavati by stressing on the most important aspect of visiting this divine place. If you are to visit the place like a regular tourist this is not the place for you.

It pains to see how people visit this centre of Spiritual retreat making a lot of noise completely forgetting the notice of maintaining silence!!
You have to be a little introspective while visiting this unique centre. This is Swamiji's most important and unique centre for preaching Adwaita Vedanta. No deity is worshipped here, neither any ritual is practised!
You have to come far away from the din and bustle of our urban and mundane existence and get absorbed in the serenity and divinity of the place. You have to be in the inward mode to absorb the beauty of the pristine blue sky, beautiful flowers ( wild flowers are lovingly arranged too) and the divine smell emanating from them ! And I have to depend solely on my poor vocabulary to describe the beauty of the place as photography is forbidden here.

The radiant and pure faces of the Swamijis, the devotion reflected in the services rendered by the staff will make you think of your daily life as not up to the mark. You will definitely be making a promise to yourself to evolve as a better human being.

There is a book shop selling almost all the books published by the Ashram and also the immortal pieces like Complete works of Swami Vivekananda and The master as I saw him by Sister Nivedita! And numerous books on art of living, meditation and old scriptures especially the Upanishads. The Meditation centre will immediately engulf you into its pure and blissful vibration!! You will feel a sense of tranquility which is so difficult to get in our rat race in the consumerist world!

You are not to loiter here and there during your stay in the Ashram and instructed either to read in the beautiful reading room or introspect in the Meditation centre!

Guest house is located at a distance of about 15 mins walk( half a kilometer approximately)from the Ashram. The walk is uphill mostly and you have to walk daily for 4 to 5 times a day for your meals etc!!
But the path is adorned with divine smelling flowers, majestic pines and birds twittering to their hearts content. It's an experience in itself! And the arrangement at the guest house is also austere but it seemed enough to me with a wooden cot, a chair and a table and an attached toilet with a functioning geyser!
And meals are served punctually and with lot of care by the staff. These are very wholesome meals and it's strictly vegetarian!
The trek to Swamiji's Dhyan Mandir at Dharamgarh is also a very enriching one. Its all about your receptivity to absorb Nature, silence and tranquility!

As a doctor I am very inspired by the hospital, Kirpalaya, where doctors from far and near offer their services to the local people where medical amenities are so difficult to find. Plan to visit there soon!

So its a spiritual retreat and not your regular tourist place! And when your soul is tired and you long for harmony with your higher self, Adwaita is the philosophy( You are in Him and He is in You! Which philosophy can be more self empowering than this??!!) and Adwaita Ashram is the place to be!!
And you have to seek permission from the Ashram incharge online or offline. Booking at Mayawati Adwaita ashram typing will take you to the site and almost all gets a permission for a stay of 3 days. And there is no charge for the meals or stay but you can contribute as much as you wish to make this huge "Yajna" of service reach out to more and more people!

My recent spiritual retreat at Advaita Ashrama in Mayavati, Uttarakhand, was an experience that touched the depths of my soul. Nestled amidst the serene and picturesque surroundings of the Himalayas, this ashrama offers a transformative journey into the principles of Advaita Vedanta. From the moment I arrived, I was enveloped in an atmosphere of tranquility, wisdom, and profound spiritual teachings.

Advaita Ashrama is a haven for seekers of truth and knowledge. The ashrama's ambiance is incredibly peaceful, with pristine nature surrounding the premises, enhancing the overall spiritual experience. The moment I entered the ashrama, I could feel a sense of calmness and harmony permeating the air.

The ashrama's commitment to the principles of Advaita Vedanta is truly commendable. The resident spiritual masters are highly knowledgeable and impart their wisdom with utmost clarity and compassion. They guide and inspire seekers to explore the depths of their consciousness, encouraging self-inquiry and understanding the nature of reality. The discourses and meditation sessions offered at the ashrama were deeply insightful and provided a profound understanding of Advaita Vedanta principles.

The ashrama provides a conducive environment for introspection and self-reflection. The serene meditation halls, lush gardens, and peaceful walkways allow for moments of solitude and contemplation. The presence of a well-stocked library with a vast collection of spiritual texts further enhances the intellectual and philosophical exploration of Advaita Vedanta.

The accommodation facilities at Advaita Ashrama were comfortable and clean, fostering an environment conducive to spiritual practice and introspection. The simple yet nourishing vegetarian meals served at the ashrama not only satisfied the body but also contributed to a sense of purity and mindfulness.

The ashrama's location in Mayavati, Uttarakhand, adds to the overall charm of the retreat. The awe-inspiring beauty of the Himalayas, the fresh mountain air, and the gentle sounds of nature create an ideal backdrop for spiritual contemplation and growth. The ashrama also organizes guided hikes and nature walks, providing an opportunity to connect with the natural wonders of the region and integrate the teachings into the fabric of daily life.

The warmth and hospitality extended by the staff and fellow spiritual seekers further enriched my experience. There was a genuine sense of community and shared purpose among everyone, fostering a supportive and uplifting environment.

I am immensely grateful for the time I spent at Advaita Ashrama in Mayavati. It provided me with the tools, guidance, and space for deep self-inquiry, leading to a profound transformation on my spiritual journey. I highly recommend this ashrama to anyone seeking a spiritual retreat rooted in Advaita Vedanta principles. Mayavati will forever hold a special place in my heart, and I look forward to returning to this sacred abode of wisdom and tranquility.

Very enchanting and serene place. The road to this place is narrow but once you reach the Ashram, you will enjoy the place. The place is calm and quiet. Adwait Ashram by Swami Vivekanand was built here and he stayed here for some time. The Ashram is maintained by Rama Krishna Mission trust, Belur Math, Kolkata, India. The Ashram has beautiful view of valley, well maintained garden, residence for monks, meditation hall and museum. Ashram also runs a charitable hospital for the people in the vicinity.

Swami Vivekananda (Swamiji) had always been attracted by the Himalayas, the land of tyaga (renunciation) and yoga, the domain of Lord Shiva. During his tour of the Swiss Alps the idea to found an Ashrama in similar conditions in India took shape. When Swamiji returned from the West in 1897,  he roused India by his tremendous personality and message through which comatose religion too was rejuvenated. In Almora, he inspired Captain Sevier and Mrs. Sevier along with Swami Swarupananda, his disciple, to commence looking for a place to house an Ashrama ‘dedicated to Advaita’. They found it in Mayavati, 6,400 ft. above sea level, surrounded by mountains on three sides, one side opening to a breathtaking view of the snow-capped Himalayan range. The Advaita Ashrama was inaugurated in March 1899. Belur Math, established earlier, approved of its objects and principles and recognized Advaita Ashrama as its branch. Swamiji paid the Ashrama a visit in January 1901 and stayed for a fortnight.

What a magnificent place! The calm and peace can be felt as soon as you enter the aashram. Didn’t get much time to spend here but what I could notice the most was.. the chirping birds around the aashram complex. As if they’re communicating with you. The most significant part of the aashram is the library and the knowledge they’ve kept there. What an incredible experience.

Quiet, scenic. Run by dedicated people of Shri Narayana Ashram. It's an Ashram, not for touristy crowd. Ideal for meditation. Accommodation is available, for 1 day, @ Rs 600, which includes meals. Food and lodging is basic, but adequate, as expected of an Ashram. People wishing to stay for more than a day, will require prior permission from the Trust.
Be warned, reaching the Ashram can be taxing. You get shared taxi from Dharchula, @Rs 350-400 per passenger. Distance from Dharchula is about 20 km. Steeply climbing mountain road, mostly unpaved, single lane in parts, affected by landslides.

It's Shangri-La on earth. Amidst the dense forest, the serenity you get here is ineffable. Surrounded by devdar trees this place has magic in its aura. I spent 7 days here and it was an unforgettable and best day. The place where swami Vivekananda stayed for a few days and meditated. Every moment spent here was a divine experience. Must-visit places for spiritual seekers. The kind of decorum the ashram staff maintain is praiseworthy. Monks who live here are the epitome of kindness and knowledge and learning from them is a great opportunity over here. Hence, Do visit.

If you're a seeker of Advait, the Advaita Ashrama located in Mayavati Champawat can be the place where you can fill your knowledge cup. The Ashram was constructed by two british followers following Swami Vivekanand's wish to create a centre for Advait learning in the Himalayas.
