It's a temple. So not much to say except it's a divine place of worship. Rich with its culture and beliefs.

Parking is a big issue. So if you can't come at early morning hours, make sure you find some place near by for parking in advance.

The Chottanikkara Devi Temple goddess is Bhagavati Lakshmi.(Mahalakshmi) along with her Husband Maha Vishnu. The main deity is also considered as Lakshmi Narayana according to the temple legend

The deity is known by various names like Rajarajeswari, Mahalakshmi, Durga, Bhagavati, Aadi Parashakthi and Amman.

Devi is worshipped as Mahasaraswati in the morning, Mahalakshmi in the noon and Mahakali in the evening along with Lord Narayana.

There are sub-shrines for Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathi, Lord Dharmasastha, Snake deities, Brahmarakshassu and Yakshi in this temple.

The temple is known for curing mental illness and disorders due to evil spirits. The patients are brought to the priest(melsanthi), who engages with them in some conversation. He nails a part of the hair of the patient in the temple tree, indicating that evil spirit is captured in the tree and the patients are cured off their illness. Neem leaves, lime and chillies are taken home from the temple, which are believed to ward off evil spirits

An Enchanting Spiritual Experience at Chottanikara Devi Temple

I recently had the privilege of visiting the magnificent Chottanikara Devi Temple, and it was an experience that left me awe-inspired and spiritually fulfilled. From the moment I stepped onto the temple grounds, I could feel a serene and positive energy enveloping me.

The temple's architecture is truly breathtaking, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail. The intricate carvings, vibrant colors, and ornate sculptures transport you to a world of divine beauty. The tranquil atmosphere within the temple precincts allows for peaceful contemplation and reflection.

The main highlight of my visit was witnessing the evening arati (ritual) at the sanctum sanctorum. The melodic chants and rhythmic drumbeats created an enchanting ambiance that stirred my soul. The priests conducted the rituals with utmost devotion, adding to the sense of spirituality and reverence.

The deity of Goddess Bhagavathy, also known as Chottanikara Devi, exudes a divine aura. Her presence is palpable, and devotees flock from all over to seek her blessings. The temple staff and volunteers were incredibly helpful and provided guidance throughout my visit, enhancing the overall experience.

The surrounding natural beauty of the temple complex, with its well-maintained gardens and serene ponds, adds to the charm of the place. It's a perfect setting for a peaceful stroll and quiet introspection.

Whether you are a devout follower or simply seeking a place of tranquility and spiritual solace, Chottanikara Devi Temple is a must-visit. It is a place where one can connect with their inner self and experience a profound sense of divinity.

I wholeheartedly recommend Chottanikara Devi Temple to everyone who wishes to embark on a spiritual journey. Prepare to be enchanted by its magnificence and find solace in the divine presence of the goddess.

Chottanikkara Bhagavati Temple is a renowned Hindu temple in Kerala, dedicated to Goddess Bhagavati. Pilgrims visit for its spiritual ambiance and the belief in the goddess's healing powers. The temple's architecture and rituals contribute to a unique cultural experience. However, personal opinions on the experience may vary based on individual beliefs and preferences.
It's uncommon for sacred items like teertham (holy water), flowers, and chandanam (sandalwood paste) to be directly tied to the amount of cash given. In traditional temple practices, these items are often distributed as part of religious rituals or blessings rather than being transactional based on monetary contributions. It's recommended to follow the specific guidelines and customs of the temple you're visiting, and if you have concerns or questions, you can inquire with the temple authorities for clarification.

As the temple was too crowded, we had taken a nei-kudam in order to quickly finish our dharshan. They give you a ghee pot literally that you can hand over yourself to those who offer pooja at the main sanctum. They even have parking space that can be availed at a nominal charge. We got a chance to peek into the elephant shed where Panchali 🐘 was playfully eating her meal.

Chotanikara Temple is a major pilgrimage center located near to Kochi. The deity is known as Rajarajeswari (Mother Goddess) and is worshipped here in three forms - Goddess Saraswathy in the morning, Goddess Lakshmi at noon and Goddess Durga in the evening. Excellent place to chant lalita sahasranamam. Used to visit this temple along with my family. Both melkkavu bhagavathy and kizhkavu bhagavathy temple 🛕 to be worshipped. Bhajan tickets available for Rs 50 in early morning for 8:00 Darshan. Great temple of durga Mata with ancient history 🙏. Will be blessed by godess lalitambika.

From Kochi, this temple is around 20km.
