St. Stephen's Church

An important heritage building to visit in old Delhi. Built in gothic architecture style which dates back to 1862, it's very well maintained with regular sunday masses for worshippers. It's closed for visitors during non-functioning hours.

Built in 1862, this Church is situated on Church Mission Road in Chandani Chowk, it is almost walking distance from Old Delhi Railway Station.
A very congested area with no parking possibilities but accessible by the nearby Chandani Chowk Metro, exit from Gate 2.

This Holy Church is one of the oldest Church in Old Delhi. It is located near Fatehpuri Masjid in Chandni Chowk and very close to Old Delhi Railway station. Being an old Church, it is well maintained.
The place is decorated during Christmas and New Year Celebration.
You can visit this place by walking of from old Delhi Railway station.

A beautiful 19th century red colored Italian Gothic architectural styled Church located on the Church Mission Road on the way towards Old Delhi Railway station from Fatehpuri.

The St Stephen's Church goes back to 1862 and is one of the structures of delhi that despite their greater than 100 years of existence, are still alive and in use. The St Stephen's Church sits on Church Mission Road and was built by the Anglican Mission Society, later supported by the Cambridge Mission that was instrumental in setting up the St. Stephen's College in the north campus as well as the St Stephen's Hospital. One of the plaques in the church is dedicated to Satish Chander Sircar, principal of St. Stephen's College from 1960-1972, another is dedicated to Susil Kumar Rudra, professor and subsequently principal of St. Stephen's College from 1885-1923.

The circular stained glass window overlooking the main hall is unique to this church and one of its kind in Delhi. The church recieved the Urban Heritage Award in 1993 for its gothic architecture that has been maintained since its inception

This is 150 years old Church. This place is full of positive energy if someone can feel.

I loved the place.

Visit there before 4:00 pm otherwise there are chances that the doors will be closed.

One of the oldest churches in Delhi, St. Stephen's Church located near Chandni Chowk is a Spiritual and peaceful place. The atmosphere inside will help you to meditate and focus on the situations oe whatever is happening in your life and help you to ask forgiveness from God and adore him.
The road outside is very chaotic so its better to come by Metro.
Own vehicle should not be preferably used.

This is one of the oldest churches of Delhi and is managed by St.Stephen's hospital authorities. The environment inside is very peaceful and one can sit here for a considerable amount of time. It is opened only on Sundays. Better to come by metro or by own vehicle which you can park at Fatehpuri parking.
Road outside remains very chaotic and avoid parking your vehicle there.

St. Stephen’s Church, located on the Church Mission Road in Delhi is one of the most popular churches in New Delhi. The St. Stephen’s Church, Delhi was built in 1862, by Anglican missionaries. It is part of the Church of North India Diocese of Delhi. The St. Stephen’s Church, Delhi compound also has the famous St. Stephen’s College and St. Stephen’s Hospital.

The church is constructed in the style of Italian Gothic architecture and is highly influenced by the Romanesque architecture. It has unique ornate walls and ceilings with the stained glass rose window, exclusive in Delhi.

St Stephen was the first Martyr of the Christian Church. St Stephen was stoned to death and died in 36 A.D in Jerusalem. His name is derived from the Greek word Stephanous or crown.

An old church from colonial times & the uniqueness is in the main service which happens lyrically in Urdu every Sunday after the early morning English short service.

This is an Anglican mission church in the teeming heart of the old city of Delhi. It was established by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, a group of English missionaries, and was intended for the use of Indian converts to the Church of England. As such, it was not intended to be a place of worship for the burra sahibs and mems who preferred to worship at St James' (Skinner's) Church. It is said to be in the Italianate Gothic style although the tower definitely has a campanile feel to it. There are also elements of Romanesque architecture in the arches and rose window. Although the architect is not known, it may have been the product of civil or military engineers

The color of the Church is said to symbolize the blood of St. Stephen, the first Christian Martyr and patron saint of the city, and by the blood of those earlier Indian converts who had been killed by mutinous sepoys and criminals in Delhi during the Indian Mutiny of 1857.

The church is on opposite side of parking.... It is at same distance..... either from Chandni chowk metro station or chawri bazar metro station.....and the church is managed by st. Stephen's hospital trust....its also one of the oldest churches in delhi....
