First Capital of Andaman & Nicobar Island is ROSS ISLAND.
CLOSED ON EVERY WEDNESDAY
This is the first place from where Britishers started conquering India as there is highest peak on this Island among Andaman group of Island. This is very beautiful small island among andaman groups os islands which is accessible by boat from Port Blair. 1st head quarter of British empire during India under british rule. You can see some buildings still there and others remains, like bakery, water filter plant, church, burial ground remains are still there. It is surrounded by water but does not have any beach.

Beautiful place with historical monuments at Andaman. You can go by a boat. Natural beauty in abundance. A history lover should not miss sound and light show. It tells about unsung heroes.

We'll maintained historical place

Ross Island is a beautiful destination to visit when in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This is a lovely place to tour if you want to make a day out it by traversing for hours amidst its historical importance. Ross Island was the headquarters of the British colony and today it houses its ruins of the buildings that were built during the British time. The Islands century old trees have captured few important landmarks by its wild vines, roots, and trunks like the Officers Quarters and rundown Church of the British times. Besides, some must visit attractions in Ross Island are like the Chief Commissioner's house, the Cathedral, and Graveyard of the Britishers. Today, if you visit the Island you will see the state of the art light and sound show commissioned by the tourism department to keep alive the vibes of the past. However, when in Ross Island, you are bound to get a great panoramic view of the nearby Island and get a chance to see a number of animals like peacocks, deers and ducks amidst the cool breeze and the amazing view of the sea.

The 1/3 order revolving optic, on a mercury trough with DA fuel burner and gas motor to revolve the optic, all furnished by using M/S BBT, Paris have been installed inside the lantern residence over the CI tower.

Proud for india...
Really amazing island🏝🏝🏝🏝🏝
I love this.
The lighthouse is situated on a hillock. There are 70 masonry steps to reach the tower. The Lighthouse is an unattended station. A rainwater tank and a restroom have been provided for the maintenance staff. A third order revolving optic, on a mercury trough with DA (dissolved acetylene) gas burner and gas motor to revolve the optic, all supplied by M/s BBT, Paris were installed inside the lantern house over the CI tower . The light was commissioned on 14 April 1969. Due to frequent failures of the rotation system, the revolving optic assembly was removed and a 500-millimetre (20-inch) cut-and-polished drum optic was placed in position in 1978. The DA gas burner was replaced by a DA gas flasher with a sun valve. This reduced the consumption of DA gas but the intensity of the light went down.
Thank you

Rose Island (Andaman)

Rose Island, sometimes called Little Neill Island, is an island of the Andaman Islands. It belongs to the South Andaman administrative district, part of the Indian union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The island lies 40 km (25 mi) northeast of Port Blair.

EtymologyEdit

Rose is named after Field marshal Hugh Rose.

History

The lighthouse is situated on a hillock. There are 70 masonry steps to reach the tower. The Lighthouse is an unattended station. A rain water tank and a rest room have been provided for the maintenance staff. A third order revolving optic, on a mercury troughwith DA (dissolved acetylene) gas burner and gas motor to revolve the optic, all supplied by M/s BBT, Paris were installed inside the lantern house over the CI tower . The light was commissioned on 14 April 1969. Due to frequent failures of the rotation system, the revolving optic assembly was removed and a 500-millimetre (20-inch) cut-and-polished drum optic was placed in position in 1978. The DA gas burner was replaced by a DA gas flasher with sun valve. This reduced the consumption of DA gas but the intensity of the light went down.

With the shortage in the supply of DA gas it became essential to change over to solar energy. Accordingly, the light source was replaced by 12V 100W Halogen lamp inside the same optic and on the same pedestal. The system became operational on 18 October 1993.

Geography

The island belongs to the Ritchie's Archipelago and is located 4 km (2 mi) south of Neill Island. It is locally known as 'Chhota' Neil (‘Little’ Neil).

Administration

Politically, Rose Island is part of Port BlairTaluk.

Demographics

The island is uninhabited.
