I usually visit here during "Kodial Theru", locally called the Car festival. The vibe and crowd is huge during this time. It's been a divine experience throughout the week of this festival. They even provide a very organised way of serving lunch and dinner during the same... This temple holds a huge light reflecting Amchi Traditions, and the spirituality is surreal 🙏🏻

It's a beautiful temple which has been renovated a few years ago. It has intricate wooden carvings in the inner parikrama depicting Ramayan. A beautifully carved ceiling and Lord Venkatramana as the main deity. The outer parikrama has carvings of flowers throughout and no two flowers are alike. During Dasara, Acharya mutt, next to it has Sharada Devi adorning the premises. These photos were taken during Vijayadashami when the entire temple is lit up with lights. It is definitely a sight to behold. Car festival of this temple is a favourite time of the year and sees many Mangaloreans come back to their hometown to pay their respects and enjoy the temple festivities.

It should definitely be on every tourist list of places to see and experience in Mangalore.

What an excellent devotional place this was....
Kodial Theru is a very prominent festival at this temple and its surrounding area named as Car Street which was very well celebrated every year.

Thousands of GSB's from worldwide gather here to celebrate this festival. The volunteers and the committee members plan this event strategically for several months making this event hassle free

A must recommended temple

Temple belongs to Gouda saraswat Brahmins. Well maintained temple. There are few small temples at walking distance from this temple. Kodail theru( which happens around rathasapthami day) and sharadha festival(during Navratri) are two famous festivals in this temple.

Venkataramana Temple is situated at Car Street, also known as Temple Square.
It is one among the 18 temples of Konkani speaking GSB community.
This beautiful temple dedicated to Veera Venkatesh, has Hanuman, Ganapathi, Lakshmi & Garuda in the four corners of the temple.
It is guided by Sri Sayamendra Thirtha swamiji of Kashi Math Samsthan, Varanasi.

This temple has a glorious history of more than 300 years.
A small shrine for Lord Venkataramana was constructed in 1736
Veera Venkatesha with the sword hanging from the waist, (Patta Devaru) was consecrated by Srimad Vibhudhendra Thirtha Swamiji in 1804.
Mukhyaprana & Garuda were also added about this time.
In 1878 Navaratna crown with Basinga was offered
Golden Crown was offered to Utsava Murthy Srinivasa
Silver Lalkhi was first taken for procession in 1888.
Lakshmi Devi was installed in 1896
Ganapathi Devaru was installed in 1898
Construction of Sanna Ratha started in1909.
Silver Clad Dhwajasthambha was erected in 1966.
Diamond Crown was offered to God in 1977
In 1999 Veera Venkatesh was adorned in Golden Palanquin.

On March 2011 this 17 th century temple was dismantled & within 9 months a spectacular grand temple was built.

Punarprathishta of Veera Venkatesha & other Parivara deities was held in 2012, after renovations.
A gigantic 43 ft Dwajastamba made of teak wood, with beautifully engraved silver is built at the entrance.
A massive silver Mahadwara, silver façade for the garba gudi & silver pillars adorn the forecourt of the temple.
Walls with panels made of teak wood depict mythology stories of Krishna & Rama
Copper roofings, golden Kalasha, Golden Simhaasana studded with diamonds & Navaratnas, unique granite carvings makes the temple grand after the renovations.
To mark the occasion, each GSB family of Mangalore received a silver coin.

KODIAL THERU
The temple is famous for its annual car festival known as Kodial Theru.
It is a grand 6 day celebration with the participation of thousands of devotees, to commemorate the divine wedlock of Venkataramana & Padmavathi.
Special rituals during daytime are Yajnas, Bali Utsava in Silver Palanquin. Samararadhana is organized every day.

Late evening, Bhandi Utsava, Gopurotsava, Vasantha puja (reciting of Vedas, bhajans, Ashtakas), Utsava in the inner premises(veda, bhajan, chande, vajjap, dhavandi suttus) etc are performed

On the 1st day of the Dhwajarohana (Kodi), a silver plate with the images of Hanuman & Garuda is hoisted to the top of Dhwaja Sthamba signifying an invitation to all the Devatas seeking their blessings.

Saan Theru
Mrigabete utsava starts with Lord Srinivasa in the decorated silver lalki to which silver bow & arrow is tied & makes its way to the Dongerkeri katte where the  Mrigabete is held after the puja.

Hodu Teru (Brahmarathotsava)
Veera Venkatesha (Patta Devaru) & Srinivasa (Utsava Murthy) are brought to the Thirtha Mantapa for the Abhisheka.
Highlight of the festival is a grand procession of the deities in the Brahma Ratha (Kodial Theru) with magnificent decorations.
Devotees pull the Ratha to the end of Car Street & back to the temple premises.

A day after Kodial Teru is Okuli. Okuli marks the end of the 6 day Kodial Theru,

Gulal (pink) colour is applied to the Lord Veera Venkatesha & Lord Srinivasa at the Vasanta Mantapa.
Devotees have fun, sprinkling colored water on one another.
Men drink milk laced with bhang or eat laddoos with bhang.
After the Madasthana is the Pete Utsav during which the decorated Golden Palanquein of Venkateshwara & Padmavathi are taken on a procession in all the five streets & then to Srinivas Pathshala compound where the deities are bathed in the holy tank & taken back to the temple.
Kavatabandhana which is a narration of dialogues between Krishna & Satyabhama, after Krishna returns from the forests, takes place
In the night the flag is lowered to mark the end of the Car festival.

Vaishnavite temple maintained by Gowda Sarswath brahmins. It is a very famous temple, well maintained. Normally Saturdays it's a little crowded, still manageable to have darshan of Lord Venkatesha🙏
