Town Bus Terminus Salem popularly known as Old Bus Stand, Salem, is one of the Town bus terminus of Salem City.
Being a major transit point in the central region of the state, and spreading over an area of 3.5 acres (1.4 ha) this terminus is managed by Department of Transport (Tamil Nadu), experiences a heavy traffic of operating about 1,500 buses.
The terminus is about 4.1 kilometres (2.5 mi) away from Salem Junction railway station.
Under the Central Government's Smart Cities Mission, the Salem Municipal Corporation began demolishing the terminus to build a new two-tiereus station at a cost of ₹92.13 crores.

Now this place is upgraded with newly constructed double decker Bus stand :)

The demolition of old bus stand for construction of a new bus stand under the Smart Cities Mission is under way.

One of the prime projects under the Smart Cities Mission in Salem, the old bus stand here would be reconstructed into a two-tier bus stand at a cost of ₹ 92.82 crore. This is perhaps the first time a two-tier bus stand is being built in State. The bus stand has been designed in such a way that it would decongest up to 80% traffic in the region.

One of my old and Childhood memories in that place. Very famous bus stand. Also old hexagonal shaped TTC(SETC) Bus stand with tower clock nearby, Large apartments nearby and Highway towards Namakkal is very close to this bus stand. Huge Salem Ghats surrounds this bus stand

One of my Golden memories in that bus stand during journeys in 1980s by Roadways. Surrounded by huge Ghats, Hexagonal old SETC Bus stand with tower clock nearby Highway towards Namakkal nearby. Large apartments nearby. All SETC Buses passes through this bus stand. All SETC Buses Rest in old Hexagonal SETC bus stand for few minutes for diesel. Drivers change. My journey was from Bangalore to Dindigul, Madurai, Vailankanni and Kanyakumari.

Salem Old Busstand construction is going on process. So the temporary town busstand is in bose stadium.

The new bus stand area has been spoiled for number of years in the name of constructing bus terminus. Intolerable delay in completing construction.
This may go 2 further years to complete.
The loss of the social comfort will be two times of the proposed comfort with new bus terminus.
