Magnificent maybe the adjective for this fortified palace! Built by Veer Singh in 15th century the palace towers above small hamlet just outside Datia. Could be maintained better. The approach road from the highway can be better though.

India is truly a land of rich history of palaces, and forts. Veer Singh Palace is an example of history forgotten or never visited. The Palace can be seen from NH44 and was only a chance encounter and a whim to visit the palace. A 5-minute drive from the highway (from M.P.) The total visit time from parking, purchasing a ticket, and visiting the palace without a guide is 45 minutes.

Worth the visit!

The palace was built in the 19th century by Raja Veer Singh, the ruler of the princely state of Datia.
The palace is an excellent example of the blend of Indian and European architectural styles. The palace has beautiful arches, domes, and intricate carvings on the walls and pillars. The palace also has a beautiful garden with fountains and sculptures, which adds to its charm.
The palace has now been converted into a museum and is open to the public. The museum houses a vast collection of artifacts, including weapons, paintings, sculptures, and manuscripts. It also has a display of the lifestyle and culture of the royal family of Datia.
Visitors can explore the palace and the museum, learn about the history and culture of the region, and admire the beautiful architecture and artwork. The palace is a must-visit destination for history and art lovers visiting Datia.

It is a beautiful nicely designed palace. Some people said it was full of bats, but when I visited it in March 2023, it was clean and well lit. So much of efforts must have been put to make it.

One of the most underrated palaces that exists in India. It's an untouched beauty lying unnoticed in the gullies of a small town. The approach road is narrow and difficult to cross with a four wheeler. Parking space is there but it's a slope so requires some skills to park.

This palace was constructed by Bir Singh Deo for his friend and Mughal emperor, Jahangir. It has 7 floors, with 2 underground and 5 above. An excellent blend of Mughal and Bundelkhandi architecture, this site is decorated with pillars, galleries, chhatries and wall paintings. Because it is visited by very few people, you will get a strange vibe here that will make you fall in love with this monument. It definitely needs more praise and attention. Must visit if you are around Jhansi!!

Datia town also has several other monuments that are worth exploring such as Datia palace, royal chhatries.

Excellent ! It is unbelievable that nobody stayed here for hundreds of years in such a magnificent palace, other than Mughal emperor Jahangir for one night ? Salute to another Indo-islamic architectural symbol of beauty is standing still today in a solitary rock

Excellent place. Must visit if interested in old monuments
I can say it even beats other forts like Agra Delhi. Getting there is tricky ypu better leave your vehicle behind and walk few hundred metres through narrow lanes. People above 65 and kids below 10 not allowed as per ASI board

This beautiful Palace is also known as Bir Singh Palace or Veer Singh Dev Palace or Datia Palace. As it is seven stories high it was earlier called Satkhanda Palace. Bundela Maharaja Veer Singh Ju Deo had it made about 400 years back at a cost of Rs 33 lacs & was completed in nine years.

Great Palace built without iron & wood. It is built on 80mx80m plot. Having nine stories two of which are basements which are closed for visitors. Though made with care as Palace but royal Bundela family never occupied it.

Open from 8 AM to 5 PM.
Public transport rather difficult to find.
No restaurant is there.
Avoid hot afternoons.
No official guide was available here.
No parking available.

Approach to Palace is crammed with what seems as unauthorised encroachments. Open drains & pigs are no good site for tourists. If they want more visitors they need to take care of excellent monument & surroundings.

It's a seven storey Mahal, situated in Datia. When I went there, not many people were visiting. We had a nice time exploring this Palace. Very beautiful.

Maharaj Birsingh Deo Build many such 52 monuments all around the country. Datia's Palace or the Satkhanda Palace is also called Datia Mahal, as well as the Purana Mahal or the "Old Palace", Historian Abdul Hamid Lahori came to this city with Shah Jahan on 19 November 1635. He said that the palace was nearly 80 meters long and was also this much broad. He said this as a very beautiful and strong palace.

This is the one of the most beautiful place in Datia that one must visit. It is said that the palace is having a total of 14 floors, 7 above the ground surface and 7 beneath the ground surface.
It is also said that the underground structure is having lots of difficult maze that a stranger can't come back once trapped inside.
Again, this is all saying. I'm not sure if these saying are truth or not.

Wonderful place. The architecture is exquisite. A very unpopular place people must visit this. The palace is surrounded by a beautiful lake. We visited the palace while coming back to delhi from Jhansi.

it's very beautiful place ever I seen. Every one can find this place between Jhanshi to gwalior. The architecture of this fort is quite similar to the one at the Orcha founded by the Bundela chief Raj Bir Singh Deo same owner and thus they are the best existing examples of the architecture of 16-17th century when the Bundelkhand area under the reign of the Bundela Rajputs.
This fort is some where build in 1620 century
To my astronishments It was a favourite of Sir Edwin Lutyens, the man who designed most of British New Delhi. Unlike Mughal inspired edifices, this was conceived as a single unit and therefore its form and decoration are well integrated.
Erected on a rocky ridge, the Bir Singh Palace has five stories visible. A central dome rising to 35m caps the palace. There are many underground chambers excavated in the rock but they remain hidden from view.Suites of underground rooms hewn from solid bedrock on a series of different levels provide hot-weather accommodation. The palace has a square plan with a domed tower at each corner. The main entrance is on the eastern side, while the south opens out to a lake, the Karna Sagar. What makes this palace special is that it is made entirely of stones and bricks with no use of wood and iron.except for doors
