Turul Monument

Panoramic view of Tatabanya and surrounding area. Nice place for a walk while learning this was historically used cave by our ancestors many thousands of years ago.

Massive monument and national symbol, it's a must see if you are in the area. The views on the city underneath from the cliffs just below are stunning. Be sure to take good walking shoes as most of the nearby walking trails are uneven. There are a couple mobile bistros on the way to the monument, next to the parking lot (which does get busy.)

The Turul is a mythical bird of prey and a national symbol of Hungarians. The massive monument overlooks the surrounding countryside. Nice walking paths and also a great cave to explore.

A very impressive monument with a great view over Tatabanya. The cafe was shut at the time we went so I can't comment on it. We also visited at night and the monument looks really impressive when lit up. I recommend a visit if you are passing.

Amazing views, lots to see and do! Few people know that there is a way to walk up here from the city center. Starting out from roughly in line with the city library, there is safe crossing over Route 1 and onto a marked path with stairs! Great workout too! Once up, you have options to see the Turul monument, but close by there is two other attractions: the Szelim cave and a little further down a superb lookout for even more breathtaking views. It's a great place to visit with kids, there are a lot of creatures to see in the forest (stag beatles are commonly found here).

Coming from the train station, there's a straightforward way to get on foot to the bottom of the hill (which Maps doesn't give you). Then, you'll have to climb up many set of stairs, difficult but enjoyable, especially once you reach the top and the big bird sculpture! A 180-view on a clear day is always a nice thing. You can't really sit just in front, as the terrain is not good for it, nor there are benches, plus there's always people coming and going. Regardless, I would recommend going if in the area.

Beautiful view, about 65kms from Budapest so not more than a 40-45 minute drive. Worth the short drive to see the largest Turul bird statue in this part of Europe. The bird that signalled the Magyars to settle in the Carpathian basin when it dropped it's sword beside the Duna over 1100 years ago. Pretty cool part of history.

Amazing figure, placed at an impressive angle upon a mountain side visible from the roads beneath.
At close range it does prove to be a beautiful sight.

14 meters wings span a real monument! Overlooks Tatabánya and a nice hike.

Very nice place with h biggest bird statue in Europe, the area is surrounded by hiking places, make sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes

Very clean, simple(but maybe exhausting) short 20minute walk from the Train station.

The view is breathtaking from the top of the hill. 15 minutes walk the cave from the statue and another 20 minutes the lookout tower from the cave.

Amazing memorial in an amazing location. Definitely worth visiting.
