Beautiful historic place that is a must when you visit Varaždin. You can easily spend a few hours exploring the museum since it is rich with history. It has exhibitions of few hundred years old weapons and guns, furniture, pottery, wardrobes and many other things local noble people used back then.

Beautiful city,
I heard of it before, but never been before.
Now when I did, I can tell Varazfin is wirth seeing place in Croatia.
Very clean, beautiful, with lot of green, parks, and beautiful architecture.
People are also very nice, and friendly which is very important for overall impression.

The city is very beautiful, but what particularly attracted me was the kindness and friendliness of the people. A city you want to return to.

Varaždin is my favorite town. Fell in love with it some 20 years ago when I first visited it.
It's a pea eful, ordered little town with a captivating old Town and a small castle in the middle of it.
Architecturally it's quite European. Romantic even.
We visited it again this summer, during the Spancirfest event. It was such a pleasant thing to experience. Like a movie set for a timeless place with a sense of community, peace, respect for tradition yet free for self expression.
The streets during this festival are dotted with store stands from local trades. We saw home made ham, pottery, lots and lots and lots of artwork, a couple was even selling Thai hats.
There was a baker with a basket visiting these stands, selling pastry to the other sellers, and you could pick up from the non verbals that there's a dose of friendship and commeradery there. Something you simply don't get to see often.
It was so idyllic that you'd want to record the whole thing and send it off to a movie festival.
If you're close by, make sure to spend at least a day soaking up the event.
If you're not near by, do yourself a favor: visit this little town during some of these festivals.

I don't know if that's the case, but at the time we visited this place it was completely peaceful, even kind of sleepy.
A beautiful baroque town, full of authentic historical buildings. Some buildings, however, would not hurt a little renovation.

Beautiful Old Town of Varaždin, must see if you are driving through northern Croatia. It contains museum of Varaždin, part of which is free to tour. The surroundings of the Old Town are also stunning, and my recommendation is to take a walk and go around the fortress after you visit inside.

The best town I ever visited. Really like the vibe of this old town and we came just in time when there is a baroque festival happening. There is a big fireworks the first night I stayed in Varaždin and it is super memorable as it is can be seen from our apartment balcony. Already come back three times to walk around the town during my visit in Croatia. Will absolutely come again.

Perfect fairytale backdrop. Suggestion: Sit on the Stančić square and face the castle. You won't regret it. Visit the castle to learn about the rich history of the city and take a stroll around it to admire it from all sides.

My first time in Varaždin and I visited the castle. I learnt so much about the city and the influences of the city. My guide Jelena was top class, like a Varaždinan Google. She made the experience special 😊

It's actually a very nice castle. Seems to be recently refurbished and the paint looks very nice, especially on a winter, cloudy day. Not much to see on the inside, appears everything was closed when we went. However there is a nice berm to walk on that circles the castle, presumably an old moat. Recommend. It's picture worthy. From 12 century.

I went to this place for the advent carnival. The food is tasty, the prices are good and the people is very friendly.
They have some hiking tracks and you can appreciate gardens full of native plants. There is a museum and the church is very pretty.
I saw a shooting star here, highly recommended!

There is a pub/art gallery 'Lokal' right next to Tourist office in Varaždin old town. They have delicious food and drinks and price is very affordable.
Must try is sausage with cabbage and egg and blueberries 'strukli'. They also sell delicious 'borovnica' - blueberry liqueur. :)

Old town Varaždin has a highly creative vibe. It is dotted with historical sights connected to the noble family Zrinski combined with modern touches of uniquely designed cafés, pubs, local food at great price.

Varaždin itself, served as the capital city until a fire changed its destiny with Zagreb / Kaptol taking over the role.

A definite must when travelling far north Croatia.
