lots of traditional Mayan products, unique atmosphere. A very colorful, ethnic place that is a must-see in Guatemala

That's an unique local market like no others. It's colorful, vivid and crowded.

Traditional Mayan market that combines food, merchandise and crafts. Thursday’s and Fridays are market days, and therefore much more crowded but with a larger variety of products. Rest of the days also display goods. Visit the churches on both sides of the market, as they are the main tourist attraction. Both combine catholic and Mayan rituals and both date from the XIV century.

Very cool place. Lots to see and buy and beautiful colors everywhere. Check out the Maximon figures (the Mayan/Christian hybrid deity who smokes cigarettes and drinks rum, very cool).
I would suggest being careful after dark in Chichicastenango. MS-13 has a pretty strong presence here. They don't hassle tourists, but it's still a good idea to be careful.

IT IS a must do spot in Guatemala.
Markets are done on Thursdays and Sundays, but the most activity is on Sundays. We were really impressed with the amount of streets, merchants and articles… the prices are not cheaper to be honest but just the beauty of the event is incredible !

Total chaos. But organized, structured chaos. Love it.

If you want to see an authentic latin American market you must come to the open market on Thursdays and Saturdays. Great handicrafts of Mayan culture.

You can find anything, make sure to eat at the comedores instead of local restaurants. Food is cheaper and you'll get a taste of what people eat every day.
