The history of the fort is so horrible and terrible that it made me sick for days. Still it has happened and must be remembered. The picture shows a hole over the slave chamber where the Europeans threw their food waste to feed the prisoners.... The guide was very friendly and helpful and gave us many details. The place is probably as interesting as cape coast castle but less costly and we were the only visitors there. It is definitely worth a visit to keep history alive!

The British colonial fortification, Fort Metal Cross (originally Dixcove Fort) is located on a promontory near the fishing village of Infuma, in Dixcove (Dick’s Cove) in the Western Region of Ghana. The cove’s quiet waters are suitable for small boats and canoes; large ships anchor approximately 2 kilometres offshore.

For the British, the motive for commencing construction of Dixcove Fort in 1692 was identical to that of the Dutch in building Fort Batentstein - to tap into the promise of gold in the hinterland; and also to win back the many English captains trading at the Brandenburgers’ (Germans’) Fort Gross Friedrichsburg in nearby Princestown. However, the people of Infuma, loyal to two chiefs whose allegiances swayed between the British and Dutch, besieged the fort several times, on behalf of the Dutch, stalling its completion. By 1750, the fort was equipped to carry up to 25 canons.

It was worth visiting Fort Metal Cross 👌

Definitely worth a visit when staying in Busua, as only a nice 15 minutes walk away. The guide is very nice and motivated and gave us a deep insight into the sad history of this place. It shows the horrific events that made so many people suffer here.

It was a very great experience to Tour within the Fort. It felt like traveling through time, conceptualizing the harrowing pains some of our ancestors went through in the dungeons. It was a great and agonizing experience tho.

The location was good.. the story about the fort was toughing I felt emotional when we were going round. And when I heard how the got the name metal cross..

Never knew about Fort Metal Cross untill my recent vacation trip to the Western Region. The Tour Guide was great and funny and the views from up the fort and out to sea was like nothing I've ever seen in Ghana. Love the fact that there is a guest house and swimming pool at the foot of the fort presenting other activities and opportunities to experience the fort aside the usual wallthrough tour.
