We commissioned Imre to make a new Oak table for our dining room. The end result was absolutely beautiful and a fantastic piece of craftsmanship. Everyone who visits comments that is one of the best looking dining tables they have ever seen! We are very happy. Thanks Imre!

My wife and I first met Imre at his workshop at North Weald where he helped us to select some slabs of wood to make a dining room table we were thinking of doing ourselves. However seeing some of his fabulous work, we decided to commission him instead. With Imre, we selected some English oak and he book matched it to make the table the size we wanted. Communications with Imre were good throughout the process and he sent us pictures of the slabs when decisions needed to be made.Imre then came to the house to fit the table to a cast iron base we had sourced separately. I cannot speak highly enough of Imre and his work. We are already planning our next project, a side tale to match the dining room table. Thanks, Imre

Fabulous workmanship and faultless service. An experience and a delightful Journey

I just wanted to record how fabulous an experience it was to commission Imre at Smartjoiner to create a live edge dining room table for me and how fantastic a service Imre provided.
My wife and I have always wanted a live (or waney) edge table but have never found a retail option that provided a suitable product. I have always wanted a very unusual, natural and rustic bespoke example.
I then, by chance, came across the Waney Edge City Lumber Company on the internet. We visited this company’s timber yard to source some live edge timber slabs to undertake the project myself. It was while discussing my plans with the guys there, that they suggested that I spoke to Imre at SmartJoiner. His workshop is one of the units within the timber yard; it was Unit 3 but I think he has now moved to Unit 6. They explained that he could assist in constructing the table to the level of finish of my choice.
We decided to have a chat with Imre. He welcomed us into his workshop and spent over an hour discussing all the options for construction from single, double and multiple slabs and showing us examples of his work in progress and finished items he had in the workshop. He described all of the levels of finishing to the surface and the different treatments of the live (waney) edge and the difference in budget of each.
We then looked at examples of timber in the yard. Imre helped us and advised us on choosing some example timber slabs, but before we made our final choice of timber, Imre asked that we send photos of the room where the table would be situated so he could get a feel for our style and what might best suit our location. He then found for us some fabulous wood slabs that really reflected his understanding of our design preferences.
His enthusiasm and advise continued throughout the whole process, He communicated with us throughout each step of the process from choosing the wood, deciding on how best to book end (join the wood, while matching the grain and shape of the wood) the pieces we chose, choosing fillers, how the edges would be finished, what product would be used to seal and finish the surface etc. etc. He would send regular photographs throughout each stage of the process annotated with various options for us to choose from
Her also helped us source the legs and the specification required.
The table was therefore created to our exact requirements and exceeded our expectations. We happen to live close enough to have been able to visit if we felt we wanted to do this during the creation of the table and Imre welcomed us every time we did and it was fascinating to see the process and work and the table taking shape. But if you don’t live close enough to do this his photos, annotations and detailed explanations of your options will, I think, allow you to make choices without having to visit at all.

Imre promised us delivery before Christmas and he delivered exactly on time. He installed the table at our property, adding the legs we had chosen and making sure it was exactly as we wanted within the room.

We used Smartjoiner to build some bespoke built in floating shelves. Little did we know that our walls weren’t straight! But this was no issue for Imre, who talked us through all the options available to us and helped us along the way with our choices, producing prototypes, so we could visualise what our new shelves would look like.

I can highly recommend Imre at Smartjoiner on the strength of the beautiful job he did for us recently. We had two shelves made from large slabs of ash. These Imre cleverly fixed to the wall via a hidden batons routered into the back of the shelves and with the weight supported by toughened glass very carefully slotted into the wood. He's a talented craftsman of that there's no doubt.

Very pleased with our wooden unit tops. Many questions asked so they are exactly what we want from shape, colour and finished look. Pictures were sent as work was being done so we knew every step of the way what was happening and can make decisions on the final look.
